New AudioTechnica moving coils SF2-thru 7??
You may be thinking of the AT-F7.
Topnotch BluRay Concert.....
I like Within Temptation's "Black Symphony" on Blu-ray, but it'll cost you $40 or so (in the US) as an import. They're a very good Dutch symphonic metal/rock band and this concert is a great introduction to the band's material.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Adding capacitance moves the resonance frequency lower.
Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A2040/3040?
I'm happy with my RX-A2040. It's powering a set of Vandersteens that cost several times the price of the 2040, and it acquits itself well. I would not describe it as clinical or veiled -- at least not in Pure Direct mode. It's too soon to comment ...
VPI Scout 1.1 distance from phono-pre
If you're using a moving magnet or moving iron cartridge then you should keep the capacitance of the cable as low as possible. This is relatively easy with short lengths, but when you get beyond 4 feet or so it becomes harder. One reasonably-price...
Ssssh, is your tube preamp really that quiet?
Thanks Atmasphere. Yes, I do see now what you were saying about a post-gain volume control affecting noise level. It attenuates the signal level, including the level of any noise in the signal.
Ssssh, is your tube preamp really that quiet?
Why would a volume control (attenuator) after the gain stage affect the level of noise? Wouldn't that be true only of a volume control that is before the gain stage? Or have I somehow got this backwards in my head? I sense that I still have much t...
VPI Scout 1.1 Motor Noise
The motor may be inducing your rack / shelf to vibrate, and this induced vibration may be what you are hearing. Look for a thin rubber mouse mat and place it beneath the motor. Worked for me.
How to set dip switches in juicy music tercel?
Yes, that's true. Input capacitance primarily affects moving magnet cartridges. It seems that your cartridge is a moving coil, so you shouldn't need to worry much about capacitance. And even with a moving magnet cartridge, we're talking about a sma...
Tercel owners?
I see from your other thread that you found the information that you were looking for re: the DIP switch settings. I have a printed copy of the manual here if there is any other information that you were looking for.
How to set dip switches in juicy music tercel?
No. Switches 4 through 6 are used to set the input capacitance. Switch # 4 = 5pF, #5 = 15pF, #6 = 33pF. If you set all three you'll get 5 + 15 + 33 = 53pF. If you're not sure what to use here, then put all three of these to ON for 53pF.Switches 1 ...
Phono Preamp question
No need to worry about "too much tubes" in your system. A tubed phono stage will work fine with your tubed line stage pre. For a budget option you might consider Shannon Park's Budgie Phono Stage, vailable on eBay for $499. It's moving magnet only...
Are Eosone speakers worth anything?
I agree that it's not worth dealing with packaging and shipping these, which is why my estimate was based on a local sale. Local sales of relatively unknown brands are increasingly difficult, and sales prices are correspondingly low. But you could...
Recommend a cartridge for my new TT
For moving magnet carridges (AT150MLX, 2M Black, Nagaoka MP-50/500):The cartridge itself rarely fails. They're usually good for decades of use. What matters is the condition of the stylus. If you get the body cheap enough then you can go ahead and...
Are Eosone speakers worth anything?
IIRC they were made by Polk and sold at Best Buy. The brand is relatively unknown -- and sounds a bit like a "white van" type name. I think you'll find that this will keep their "value" low. I suspect that you'd be doing very well to get $300 for ...
