Cat Scratch Fever?
Nobody gets out alive, nobody.
The Absurdity of it All
If it sounds good to the listener, or better after experimentation, who cares how it measure or what anyone else hears? Extended listening vs. short blasts of A:B, a good discussion for a new thread perhaps.
What do we hear when we change the direction of a wire?
Who “listens” to electricity or electrical characteristics/properties? Sound is created, or in this instance recreated, by a vibrating transducer(s); how is that movement measured objectively/scientifically? I am definitely in the camp where “ever...
Dynaco ST-70 Series 3
Yeah how about it! Thanks for that, much appreciated.
Check in: How quickly are streamers and servers evolving?
Been poking around the streamer subject recently hand have been overwhelmed by all the erratic reviews and so forth. But once again, there is no straightforward answer that compels a switch from the current cd and steam Pandora from iPad via BT re...
Critical subwoofer tip
The YouTube test was really useful. Flushed out a level issue but phase was in sync.  The localization of low frequencies as suggested by MC was quite profound in its absence IMO.
Speaker Positioning
So the new setup is in place, and I decided to add ceramic cable risers for shats and gigs making a direct comparison all but impossible.  That said, preliminary results are promising. Just have to sample a broader spectrum of material. One thing ...
Speaker Positioning
Thanks everyone. Again, a lot of great tips and education. I now understand why the speaker closer to the side wall is louder!  Glad it isn’t the equipment.  Purchased the Bosch laser . Am just waiting for new speaker stands because tweeter positi...
Speaker Positioning
LOL T-Jockey! That is exactly what I am doing, somewhere between 1/8-1/5, tweeter height, etc. etc. etc.  all great free things to try!I did purchase the cheap Bosch laser rangefinder.  If only I could find a good used mass spectrometer. 8)
Speaker Positioning
So lots of potential solutions and even more information to fiddle with.   Anticipate a relo further form the back wall, may not be able to accommodate side wall optimization but it seems like always from walls is a constant.  The sweet spot/toe i...
Speaker Positioning
Thanks gents.   By “dynamic” I was referring to physical location determined by more than just a tape measure,  Sonic measurements are of little value IMO unless you know the corresponding measurements for your left/right ear.  Once again and as a...
What's the best and/or favorite piece of equipment you've owned? And do you still own it?
HK 150 wpc integrated amp circa late ‘80s early 90s capable of +/- 80 amps instantaneous current. A real brute for then something shy of $900; Wall to Wall Sound if you’re old enough to recall and not to old to forget ;). Wish I still had it. Atte...
Have speakers really improved within the last 20 years??
Ah, the age old question, Ginger or Maryann? Like hearing, this changes with age :)
Can I use 24 gauge speaker cable?
As is normal here you get a range of answers from zero to infinity, especially on this topic.  My #1 rule is always “Follow your ears”, even to the extent of having regular hearing tests. I mean if your hearing is way off, it is not worth throwing...
Amp repair cost — is this right?
Seems a little pricey, but not crazy esp. if you truly  received the “goodwill” of years of experience and high quality parts, which you will not be able to confirm for years.  I’ve had amps worked on and was thrilled, and had a CD player worked o...
