Best sounding phono preamp under $600
Hi Bob,I've used a Creek OBH 15 and for the money it's nice but not in the same ball park as a used Camelot.Creek & Clearaudio Basic - much the same not worth the extra for the Basic imo.Clearaudio Basic Ltd - a really nice stage, crucifies P7...
Best sounding phono preamp under $600
Hi Bob,I've had great results with Camelot Lancelot and Charm 11 psu. I've owned lots of ss phonostages and this is the nicest.Nice company to deal with as well. Would be in your budget bought used.
From Hydra to Hydra 6: an upgrade?
Hi Overhang,I've used the 6, 8 & the original.I kept the original and sold the others. Not a huge difference between the original& 8. The 8 is possibly just a shade more detailed/dynamicthan the original but in my system, I prefered the, to...
Supratek Cortese--avoiding microphonic tubes
maybe just been lucky but 5881/6L6s have been more prone (although none that were a big problem unless you thumped the pre)in my Syrah.Quietest tube pre I've ever owned by a long chalk.Tube dampers very worthwhile and I also sit pre & psu on F...
Hearing above 15kHz
My hf hearing at 50 years is long since shot due to working on oil platforms for years before health & safety ruled. My speakers do 40kHz and I can still enjoy ( notice not saying hear) the benefits of super & ultra tweeters. So who knows?

My being thick? - there is always a text file with the venue/track list. There usually is another text file that looks like it may be a code for FLACS to automatically install the titles?maybe not but it would be nice.Have so many concerts now it w...

h*ly s***, sums up the response of myself and more pointedly my Deadhead friends! Not tried using it for any of the downloaded concerts but Exact Audio Copy is freeware and I have had very good results burning from commercial cd's.I'm going to an e...

Cheers Rlwainwright - wasn't nearly as straight forward as you made it sound but well worth the effort.I have only downloaded 3 concerts and the quality amazes me.Looking forward to downloading many more.Bluegrass Gospel Project , The Old Meeting ...
What is the order of power cord priority?
Assumed the mains were sorted.Have to agree with Dewald re mains but disagree re upgrading i/c's etc - if the mains is not sorted you are wasting money on i/c's, speaker cables. However even with crap mains, power cords/conditioners will bring a fa...
What is the order of power cord priority?
I'd use the Harmonix on cdp and pre-amp.Power cords do make a difference on power amps but I would think you would get most benefit on the first two links of the chain, so to speak.Since you don't mention the make of the SET amps?best ask advice f...
Strange how many used valves measure NOS?
Yip, I'm learning !Strange thing is some tubes I would put as obviously unused, perfect in every respect visually, don't measure worth a toss. Some respectable looking ones that measure way less than indicated by the seller actually sound fantastic...
Strange how many used valves measure NOS?
Tested more today and the tester died - solid state here we come! Only joking.Strangely some definitely nos tubes I have test mediocre but sound fine and some that test brilliant are noisy as hell in the amp. Will have to sort and calibrate the tes...
Good and bad w/ replacing stock preamp jumpers?
I replaced the stock wires between pre & power sections in my Nu-Vista integrated..About 5 inches of custom made KCAG with Eichmann Silver bullets gave a huge leap in transparency & detail and took the amp to an altogether higher level.Si
Shunyata hydra 8 wich outlets with Tact amps?
asked this question of Shunyata a while back re dac & transport - basically told suck it & see.I would connect your source to the digital and your 'digital' amps to the analogue
phonostage driving 2 pre-amps - any ideas?
Bdgregory - pure genius! Not sure if the Linn Unidisk which is in effect his mainpre will have a tape loop but I wish I had thought of that one.His stuff is all too high tech for me to cope with - the Sondek (which I had just set up) had me cringin...
