A comparison between two DACs, one R-2R, the other ES 9038-based.
@zimmermaYes, there is a tube in LAB12 DAC SE but what about all the components, exept the chip, in the two DAC:s you have compared? Are they the same? Or do you mean using a tube is ”cheating” in any way? Every component in a DAC affect the sound...

@zimmerma I didn’t mean to be a smart arse, but the difference between Hegel HD12 and LAB12 DAC SE is pretty easy to hear. Especially when it comes to vocals where HD12 in comparission is harsh and cold.

I can only say that I don’t need more than 10 sec to hear the difference between my Hegel HD12, LAB 12 DAC SE and through my Audiolab 8200CD:s own DAC.
Unforgiving DAC or add Tube Preamp??
@vivahifiHave you heard the LAB12 DAC1 SE? That’s the most analog sounding DAC I’ve heard? But I have never had the chance to listen to Border Patrol DAC. Would have been interesting.

@willmacc and 2psyopI’ve changed almost everything in my set up (speakers, interconnects, DAC and amp) so it’s kind of hard to say what does what. What I can say is that LM34IA gives you very much for the money. I think it sounds almost as good as ...

Try a LAB12 DAC1 SE. Upgrade it with a NOS 6922 tube (Telefunken, Philips or Siemens).
Audiogon member suggestions for a speaker that sounds good at low volume!!!
I also prefer low volume listening. I have Tannoy Legacy Eaton and uses a tube amp with them. I absolutely love them.
Tube tester: Orange VT 1000
After reading tsbel's links I think I will not buy any tester before a new one is made, aiming for stereo amps. And with a reasonable price tag (which is wishful thinking).Very interesting reading. Thanks tsbel.

@oddiofyl Yes, 6922 is one of the tubes I also wanted to be able to test. @imhififan There it is. The wonder machine from the past:) I have never seen anything like it. Cool!!!

@bjesien Yes, I did. But one or more of the Tung-Sol EL34Bs are faulty, so I have to send them back. The Genalex Gold Lion ECC82s and the ECC83 works fine, but they haven't done more than 50 hours so they will change in sound. But I think the soun...
Drink of choice for serious listening?
Bishops Finger (ale), S:t Peter's Cream Stout, Carnegie Porter or some other dark ale or porter/stout suits me well on the weekends. Otherwise tea.

Curious what people think is the best "value" high end speaker (~5K to 15K)
Tannoy Legacy Eaton with a tube amp.
Problem related to Push-Pull or EL34?
@jond Actually to bias is not the big problem. There's a 8-pin connector on one side of the amp where this special TT Bias Meter is supposed to be connected. I have figured out which pin goes to which tube and then I use a multimeter to measure th...
Problem related to Push-Pull or EL34?
@jond I'm in Sweden. You mean he answered your mail? I would love to have the schematics over the Unisis Signature and have someone figure out how to bias it without the special bias meter TT made. Or even better he could tell me how many mV the t...
