xlr vs rca Jamiek, If you use XLR to RCA adaptors on each end, the XLR cable in the middle will be performing just like a RCA cable. You don't get any noise cancellation property of a XLR cable. There is absolutely no benefit to do that except higher cost.
Whirring sound in Scoutmaster motor normal? He bought it used, ladies and gentlemen. Break-in shouldn't be an issue, lack of lubrication is. But for the peace of mind, calling VPI will be prudent.
Whirring sound in Scoutmaster motor normal? Don't know which motor you have. If it is the 600rpm motor, it is normal to have some whirring noise but it shouldn't be too loud, it might need to be lubricated. If you have the 300rpm motor, you shouldn't hear any noise unless your ear is only a...
Removing phono board from PrimaLuna Three Please forgive my ignorance here. Why do you need to take the phono board out? Doesn't it have three other inputs? Why can't you just plug the Bellari into one of them?
Trying to sharpen the vocals...EQ related question 10-band eq will be effective. Just bring the frequency between 250Hz and 3000Hz up about 3db or whatever amount that suit your taste.
Elusive Tube-Amp Hum If you unplug the interconnect completely, does it still hum? If it doesn't, the problem is most likely a lose ground shield in your interconnect.
Running an External Phono with a Hovland HP-100 The internal phono section of the Hovland is very very good. Don't assume the Audio Research will sound better. It will sound different for sure but not necessary better. It will be a matter of taste so make sure you audition it yourself. Don't ru...
biwired RCA speaker cables? Not sure what you are trying to do. I am confused. Why do you want to use an interconnect as speaker cable? Where did you get that idea from?
A good 5 channel Amp? Help If you could spend about $2,500, I would recommend you look into a used Theta Dreadnaught 200W x 5. It is one of the most musical amp at this price range. It also looks great and very reliable. I have one in service for over 10 years and I still l...
Removing plastic phase plug from tweeters? If by removing the phase plug would make the speaker sounds better, don't you think the manufacturer would have done so already? They are there for a reason, don't touch them.
How to determine unknown capacitor values What kind of capacitors are they? How old? And what are you going to use them for? If they are electrolytic, I would throw them away because electrolytic will dry up and leakage will increase with age. Also, I wouldn't use old cap (NOS or otherwis...
Tube amp selection- for Magnepan 1.6QR IMHO, none of the three amps listed are good match for the 1.6. But if you have to pick one, I will pick the Jadis for it delivers a bit more current than the other two. My second choice will be the BAT. I would avoid Cray.I don't know why you dec...
Two questions about VPI peripheral ring 1. You don't need the center rubber piece when using the peripheral ring.2. It is normal, don't worry about it.
Zero Feedback: Atmasphere vs. BAT Scott,With all due respect, IMHO, you are taking a wrong approach. Speakers are a much more difficult DIY project than building amps. If you are on a budget and are interested in DIY, I would suggest you buy a pair of high efficient speaker used, ...
I want to try tubes, need suggestions It depends on what speakers you will be using the amp with. Don't rush into buying unless you have nailed down the speakers. |
