Shootout of Nos 6sn7 tubes After 10 hours of listening to 6n8s made in 53, I am more impressed with it.It sounds dynamic with nice air and details.I am listening to "Hero" by Mariah Carey. It sounds so delicious and nuanced through this tube that I am just happy. It is kind o...
Chord Dave - Missing soundstage width I had been using EmmLab Dac2 from 2001 to 2009 then I need a fresh air.I auditioned Dave with and without Hugo Mscaler.Without Mscaler, Dave is about same level as EMMLab Dac2.But with Mscaler, it gave wider and deeper soundstage with more details...
Shootout of Nos 6sn7 tubes @lowrider57 I am quite impressed with 6n8s made in 53 with sparkle and air in addition to great bass.Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen sounds so real through this tube.I recommend you to get 6n8s metal base made in 1950 which cost less than 100$ per pair.
Which one to choose between two 80K$ tube amps? @fuzztone@ lancelockI consider getting Zotl Z10e reference 10-watt electrostatic headphone amp for my Stax 009s headphone next year.
Shootout of Nos 6sn7 tubes It is going to be interesting if I can compare this 6n8s tube with Sylvania wgt metal base.I have Sylvania wgt brown base which sounds similar to this 6n8s but 6sn8s give more dynamic sound. But it is not easy to get Sylvania wgt metal base at rea...
Which one to choose between two 80K$ tube amps? In my listening room, 48 Watts SET is enough to drive my Lansche speaker ( oficial eff 99db/w, but I guess 95db/w).But I have to save money to afford 80K$ tube amps.I had spent 30k$ yearly on audio components during last 3 years. That means I had b...

Which one to choose between two 80K$ tube amps? @mikelavigne Thanks Mike for your detailed opinion. After having lived with JA500 for 2 years, i may not go back to it due to too much heat out of it.But I would like to have a chance to audition David Berning OTL some day.Thomas
Schiit Freya+(Plus) Right two tubes are gain, left tubes are buffer. In theory, gain tubes shall have more effect but in reality, both gain and buffer have almost same effect on the sound. You do not need to use same quad tubes. The best thing is to experiment yourself...
Schiit Freya+(Plus) Although I like Kenrad and Syl vt 231 combo as end game, you can also have Russian 6n8s to use at gain stage since it give more lively sound. If you switch between Kenrad and 6n8s, it is kind of having two different pre. https://www.ebay.com/itm/QUA...
Schiit Freya+(Plus) Update on tube rolling of Freya+.After using Russian 68ns made in 1978 tube for a while at gain stage, I switched to RCA gray bottle 4 days ago keeping Sylvania vt231 at buffer stage. With RCA gray bottle at gain stage, it sound round and full al...
Shootout of Nos 6sn7 tubes @lowrider57 i understand what you mean by mixing tubes.Schitt Freya also use quad 6sn7 tubes, two for gain, two for buffer.Kenrad vt231 at gain and Syl vt231 at buffer work best for me.
Shootout of Nos 6sn7 tubes @lowrider57 It is good to hear that you enjoy 1578 tube that I had recommend to you.You also had gone through many 6n7 tubes.1578 has the best bass, widest and deepest soundstage and sweet treble. The only drawback of 1578 is that when I play lady ...
Krell iBias Amp Dependability: An Informal Survey FunnyI had used Krell KSA 150 from 2000 to 2009 for 10 years without any issue.
Time to upgrade DACs You are in "upgrade bug".But 2500$ will not make huge difference in the sound.Your SF speaker is still good. How about getting Schitt Freya+ in front of your SS amps.It will give nice warmth and more 3D soundstage. You can also have fun through tube... |
