which external hard disc for music storage? KennyT, you are looking for a file format converter utility. There are dozens out there for the PC (I use Poikosoft myself), but since you are on a Mac I suggest you look through the apple download store.I found this, but it doesn't say it support...
which external hard disc for music storage? Cwlondon; the short answer is "yes," you can use it IF you have the right computer setup for it. But I would say it is extreme overkill and not the best implementation for audio this purpose. The box looks like it's made more for use with non-line...
How do you determine how much to spend on speakers A chime in note on cables. If you haven't already broken the bank on speakers and amps, always ALWAYS get rid of the stock power and interconnect cables that may come with your equipment - especially where the analog signal path is concerned. Your First Concert was..... Judas Priest & Slayer in 1988 - but that's not the punchline. I grew up in a small town and didn't really have access to concerts until I went to college. A buddy and I found last minute tickets and headed to the show in Phoenix in the early f...
It's 2008. Why aren't there better options ? Rkny, your experience with the "good enough" comment is a familiar one to me. Many people gasp when they learn the cost of my system and say things like "you can't hear the difference between CD and 192K mp3." Um, if you are subjecting your ears t...
DAC for FLAC? Just a note of clarification; a standard DAC (internal or external) handles the conversion of a digital signal to an analogue one. A DAC does NOT handle the conversion of a digital format file (i.e. .wav, .flac, .acc, etc) to a digital signal - th...
It's 2008. Why aren't there better options ? William, I think Rob's comment was aimed more at the number of components and the associated clutter and cost it creates versus whether it works well or not. While I've sometimes been a "more options and cool toys is good" kind of person, the more...
Best Sonos ZP-80 Mod? Stumpeyejoe, I just bought a PS Audio dl3 as well and would be interested to hear your opinion of the DAC mod. Wouldn't mind improving he sound of my universal player as well.
1 Gb RAM enough with Mac Mini? Is the drive a CD only or a DVD-CD Combo? DVD drives tend to do a better job of ripping without errors, so consider getting an external usb drive just for ripping if the internal is CD only. Plextor drives are fairly acclaimed for ripping accuracy.
It's 2008. Why aren't there better options ? it will be interesting to see if the PS Audio Perfect Wave has any impact in this arena. I haven't been able to get on the discussion boards to learn the details about it, but some of the press sounds promising
Another NAS Question I don't know if a vendor will rip files to a hard drive and send it to you as they usually put everything on DVDs. Given your volume, it's not a bad idea to have them put it straight to the HD, but I'd still ask for the DVDs as backup. If you just...
It's 2008. Why aren't there better options ? Having followed this subject here and elsewhere, I feel a little bit the same a lot of options that are close, but no real killer or complete solution at a reasonable price. Lets break this down and look at the four basic components of a fi...
Squeezebox and Music Vault NAS Any NAS will work without your computer being on so long as you have a network (a wireless router can be had for under $100). The Music Vault is double the price of a comparable NAS you could get at any Best Buy (Maxtor, Buffalo, etc). Also, I don...
Best Sonos ZP-80 Mod? Saffy, I feel your pain. I'm frustrated that a better file based solution isn't out there, because it certainly isn't a technology limitation that I can see (or, at least, it shouldn't be). All I want is something that is easy to use and will lay ...
My comment on CD players vs. Universal DVD players If CDs are your primary/exclusive media source, I think you have made a wise choice. A good CD Player will hold it's value, because we all have lots of CDs and they will always be in relative demand. If your collection/approach changes down the ro... |
