What to listen for?
During “Tin Pan Alley” Stevie Ray and Double Trouble there are a couple times you hear the drum stick contacting the rim of the snare and times Stevie sings the word better you can hear the pop of air hitting the mic.
Which DAC Filter - Fast or Slow?
There is no right or wrong answer. The filter can be used to dial in the sound from your amp, your pre amp, and you speakers. It can also be source specific or it can be music genre dependent. For jazz and mid rock blues I like mid. For hard rock ...
Tube DACs
I had thought the same myself. Can tubes cancel each other out? Tubes are in the chain to achieve a particular sound signature you like. This is the whole idea behind tube rolling. There are tube dac tube phono pre amps and tube amps snd tube pre ...
"High end" store snobbery
From the store stand point. Yes vintage 2channel audio gear can hold up and be relevant for years. The technology does change, but the basic premise of the equipment does not. AV gear is for the most part out dated and left with limited use after ...
Spikes on tower speakers
Why not grind down the current spikes flush with base. Then drill new holes and put in threaded inserts and they will allow you to add feet or iso pods.
How long do speakers last?
I just re foamed my pair of Bose 301’s that were bought in 1977 and they still run great. I use them for my front surrounds in a second tv room. This also includes having them in a garage setting in northern Wisconsin for 16 years as well.
Recommend A New DAC Between $1000 and $2000
Gustard R26 search over! this dac checks all your boxes and then some. I have had mine for four months and when I tell people how it is in simple form I say it’s musical with huge sound stage. I can listen for hours with zero fatigue and after b...
The Impossible Has Happened
It reminds me of car and driver always doing reviews for cars 99% of the population could never afford to own let alone drive.
Analyzing DACs
My pre is a Freya + do this allows me to add tubes or not depending on the sound I want. Even though I never use with out the tube stage it is nice to have the option. IFi dac’s have a very good amp stage and you can buy dac’s with tubes if that i...
Tube or solid state
My set up is solid state amp then tube pre amp. Also to note is my solid state amp is a quality class A amp. Not A/B or class D but true class A. For me the amp is the sound and the tube pre is the sound stage and dynamics.
UPS. Friend Or Foe?
I was a UPS driver for 23 years and could spend the next week telling you stories. For the most part the drivers do care and try their best. Most of the damage is system logistics and how they build their sort centers snd conveyer belts. Rule one ...
Bad experience with an electrician
If a siamese twin is master bating can you call it incest?
I feel bad for Generation X and The Millennial's
Sorry but you are dead wrong and stop yelling at the kids for walking on your grass. Every era has great musicians and bands. I think the talent that is out now is the best ever. Go back to our old days and think about the 1000’s of bands and guit...
World's Best Stereo System ?...
There needs to be a separate difference between most expensive stereo system and best “sounding” stereo system. Just because it is that expensive does not make it the best and being the best does not have to be the most expensive!
Speakers with deep/powerful bass
As I read through the responses the talk turned to only what the bass could or was doing and nothing about the overall sound quality of the speaker. With that in mind I will put up my old Bose 901’s running through my Sansui 7070 receiver. I was a...
