Vandy 2ce vs. 2ci
I agree with Maxgain's assessment of the Vandersteens' ability to play all kinds of music and about how easy they are to sell. I've also not encountered a situation where Vandersteens could not play more than loud enough (but I don't play music at...
Advice on replacing Vandersteen 2's
They are smaller but sound similar to the Vandersteen 2Ce's, and one of their virtues is, to my ears, even better off-axis response. I know, because I also often move around a lot while I listen. I also listen to a lot of jazz, and I groove mighti...
Where are you at on the curve?...
I think that I'm probably 98% "there". But it's apparently that last 2% that separates audiophile aspirations from the attainments of people, such as myself, with more limited resources and/or competing concerns and priorities. I can hear what I'm...
Hendrix Smash Hits?
I haven't heard any 2002 Hendrix releases, but I think that the 1997 CD versions were significant improvements compared to previous CD masterings.I remember back in the late '60s, "Axis Bold as Love" and "Electric Ladyland" were my favorite headph...
OK to plug sub into a surge supressor......
A dedicated line sure can't hurt.I have my ACI Titan II LE subwoofer plugged into a Monster HTS 2000 surge surpressor, and I can't hear any difference in its performance, good or bad (YMMV).During the warmest months, we get a lot of lightning here...
Review: Vandersteen 1b Speaker
There is the Vandersteen 1C ;^)Perhaps your friend should follow his "instincts". There aren't many speakers that perform like the Vandersteens.
Review: Vandersteen 1b Speaker
The ACI Titan II LE is an active subwoofer and crosses over as low as 35 Hz. with a to 24 db./octave slope. I do think that it's a good match with a Vandersteen 1C or 1b. But I would try an amplifier with more oomph first to see if that does enoug...

Electrical outlet upgrade worth it?
You obviously know nothing about me or about my experience, but you try to characterize/dismiss me and my response in a tired, empty, and rude manner. Opinions, logic, and priorities do vary, but there can be no excuse for your behavior. Please st...
Electrical outlet upgrade worth it?
I would only replace corroded, or malfunctioning electrical outlets, unless I had money to burn and was not philanthropic, and/or I would buy more music. Opinions, logic, and priorities obviously vary.
Vandersteen question.
I have 1C's, and a friend a few blocks away has 2Ce's. They sound quite similar, with that special Vandersteen coherence, open-ness, and dispersion. The 2Ce's have a fuller lower bass and sound larger and a couple of shades darker, all things bein...
Review: Vandersteen 1b Speaker
Thanks for the fine review.A friend's pair of Vandersteen 1B's provided my compelling introduction to Vandersteens. It wasn't long before my wife and I bought my 1C's, and we have no desire to look further any time soon (besides, the larger Vander...
Any opinions on NAD quality?
I have owned NAD gear (all purchased new) for 15 or 16 years. I never had reliability problems, and, like Joman, I've never bought a new component to replace a broken NAD component. I wish most of the other audio gear I've had over the years was a...
Finger Print Removal on Aluminum Faceplates
I agree that 90% rubbing alcohol is okay for most things, but it may damage silkscreening.
How do YOU justify this hobby?
I can appreciate responses such as the one given by Hepl and others.I generally don't try to justify this "hobby", because I don't consider my purchase of audio gear to be a hobby any more than my many other consumer activities in which I can ende...
