LOUDEST Concert and Tinnitus
@tony1954 It was in a small club here in Portland. Maybe 150 people. Low ceilings too. Saw U2 there on their first US tour. Rory was a fantastic show. Crystal clear sound and a fine job by the sound guy. But yea, I learned from that to take care...
LOUDEST Concert and Tinnitus
Rory Gallagher in '78.  My hearing was crap for a week.  I worked in the music distribution business and would get comped show tickets all the time.  But I learned early on right after Rory to just stuff some tissue in my ears.  I ended up with a ...
One of the great things about Vinyl
+1 @clearthinker  I didn't really read any of them.  Just figured I'd add a small, non-relevant bean. LoL
One of the great things about Vinyl
If I listen to a record, it's all the way through.  Same goes for CDs.  I have a pretty varied taste and almost none of them are duplicated in the other format. Listening to a record just takes a little more work.  But that's cool......
What CDs to buy
A lot of great suggestions.  One I haven't seen....Arista GRP.  One of the pioneers of CD digital mastering.  Some of the early stuff was done with JVC Japan.  Always sounds amazing and I'll buy any I see at the Goodwill if I'm browsing for CDs.  ...
Best Basic CD Player (no SACD, USB, etc.)
Old Dude.....if you go for the Onkyo, post a review here what you think.  I got $300 and it seems like a good purchase.
Best Basic CD Player (no SACD, USB, etc.)
Hey Old Dude....just another Old Dude.  I think these guys have sold me on the Onkyo 7030.  I've read nothing but great reviews on it.  I'm still using a 20 year old JVC CD/DVD player I picked up at a garage sale.  Figuring it might croak soon.  H...
How long does it take a decent quality speaker to "wear out"?
I own a set of DQ 10's.  Bought them from an electrical engineer.  They are still 100% original as far as I can tell with the exception of a re-foam  He told me they were never driven hard.  His wife wasn't too fond of them.  They sound fabulous. ...
Steamer upgrade? Follow up follow up
I'll be using a steamer for my brussel sprouts today.....
Purchasing barely used NAD gear
@jl35 that seems to be the consensus from what I've been reading.  I would be using the amp to drive some DQ 10's. I know the amp has the dynamic power. I'd be worried the amp would probably go toasted since the 10's are not an easy load for many ...
Purchasing barely used NAD gear
Thanks guys.  Recapping is not something I have the skills to do.  Would the law of a diminishing return come into play here?  If it's spendy,  I don't see the point.  I'm not a rich guy LoL

Welcome to Hell, here's your 8-Track
Being that I'm an old relic, I can vouch for the 8-track.  I splurged on a quality player for my 72 240Z.  It far outperformed the cassette deck I had SQ wise.  It had an adjustable head and more power than the pos cassette deck I had.  It never g...
How much is about the recording
I don't have near the audio quality system that most of you have.  I read this forum mostly for info.  But I do own a vintage set of DQ10's and an '80s vintage Proton amp....sister company to NAD I believe.  I'll let my phono and CD player remain ...
