preamp/system help
vinyl is *so* much nicer than cd; i'd start here. also, if ya have decent radio station(s), why not a tuner? you'd be amazed at the sound quality of a good station on a good tuner. i fya *only* want cd, tho, why even *bother* w/a preamp? yust one ...
Help! Need tube preamp to finish system.
philefreak, i shall post my feelings about the rogue after i listen for awhile, but it mite be a couple weeks before i get the unit.
Best Full Range Speakers @ Around $2000?
deborah, if yer looking for a speaker that radiates most of its energy directly towards the listening-spot, perhaps ewe should try dunlavys - they have a *very* narrow sweet-spot, primarily cuz they're so directional. one reviewer, talking about t...
Best Full Range Speakers @ Around $2000?
my thiel 3.5's - an *especially* difficult load, due to their bass equalizer (which is how they go down to 20hz) - are currently being used in a 2nd system in my kitchen (big kitchen!). they're being driven by a 35wpc audio innovations integrated,...
Help! Need tube preamp to finish system.
i'm reading this rogue stuff w/baited breath - i yust purchased a demo 99 from a dealer w/o auditioning; it's on its way to rogue for them to install an additional set of rca tape outs & rca main outs. mark said they're also almost done w/a *m...
Best Full Range Speakers @ Around $2000?
*true* full-range? bass response down to 20hz, +/-2db? try used thiel 3.5's; if ya must spend $2k, then buy *two* pairs, & run 'em back-to-back! ;~) this, actually, is what mr. thiel recommends doing w/his speakers, in lieu of bi-amping, which...
Subwoofer Match with Proac Response 2's
euphorbia, proacs are *excellent* speakers, but, yule still need a pair - that's $3800. will they be powered, w/built-in x-overs?
Subwoofer Match with Proac Response 2's
can't help ya w/ht, but for music, ya *have* to get a *pair* of subs. this does two things - doesn't muck-up the soundstage, & also allows much less distortion, cuz ya don't have to drive 'em as hard for the same apparent volume. both of these...
Best two amps to bridge for subwoofers.
i'm currently using a pair of bridged adcom gfa-555's - the earliest usa-mfr'd versions, w/the smooth faceplates & rack handles. they're driving a pair of the larger vmps subs. they do an excellent job. i can't imagine anything doing better at...
Amps: Bryston vs Electrocompaniet
the electrocompaniet will have *no* problems driving the dynaudios - 120wpc into 8 ohms, 200wpc into 4 ohms, 350wpc into 2 ohms. stable down to 0.5 ohms, max current output is over 100 amps. don't have experience w/plinius, tho everyone sez they'r...
Amps: Bryston vs Electrocompaniet
i've only heard bryston in dealer/show situations, but what i heard sounded nice. i *do* have electrocompaniet stuff at home, tho, & like it a lot. lotsa folks say its solid state for those who like tubes - seems pretty close to me. the only r...
WHICH SPEAKERS?
dolphin, thanks for your comments. no problems w/ewe liking the talons, but their price is beyond me. oh well. as far as the newforms, the models i'm considering - the r645, & the nhb45, will go deeper than what ewe heard, tho, as i said prewi...
WHICH SPEAKERS?
dolphin, what are the limitations of the newform? i, also, am searching for that "unbelievable" speaker at a believable price. low-bass is not an issue for me, as i'm satisfied w/my pair of larger vmps subs, driven by a pair of adcom 555's, x'd ov...
Small Speakers w/ Full Range Sound
small speakers? small footprint? kinda confusing. is placement a problem? can they be out from the walls? even an excellent mini-monitor mounted properly on stands will take up the same basic amount of space as many large floor-standing speakers.
Cleaning Vinyl
http://www.high-endaudio.com/ - this is arthur salvatore's www; he still has some of these kieth monks record sweepers on his site, so mebbe he still has a few - they're n.o.s. there seems to be some carbon-fibre mixed in w/the animal-hair on the ...
