Is Hi-fi getting more expensive?
OK, here's how to look at it. If you invest $500 at 6%, compunded monthly for 10 years, after 10 years you have $909. Will that $909 buy you more electronics now than $500 ten years ago?Yes.The top end will always be the top end, but for 95+ perce...

I agree with Jeffreybowman2k
Must see mini film on Audiophile Club of Athens...
Thanks!
subwoofer question
I'd go with one better sub rather than 2 lesser ones. You can always add a second one later. The other issue is that the amplifier in the sub is also 15 years old, and you never know when it will need the capacitors changed, etc.
who has experience with Joseph Audio?
Just to clarify two posts above: only the second paragraph is from Stereophile, the rest is mine.
Some advice needed
I've used Parasound amps for the center and rears - they're a good bargain. Also B&K.
Want to Blow Up My Stereo
Blowing up a stereo...isn't that what Brilliant Pebbles are for? http://www.machinadynamica.com/machina31.htmGet a test disc from stereophile or somewhere else to test polarity, etc.
who has experience with Joseph Audio?
LOL - I'm a B&W fan (although not as much as I used to be). Joseph Audio bought out (or uses) Infinite Slope and their crossover ideas. From a 1996 Stereophile:Joseph Audio is a relatively new New York based company making loudspeakers designe...
Want to Blow Up My Stereo
Maybe ask your speaker manufacturer for placement advice? Could help.
who has experience with Joseph Audio?
I've got to be the lone dissent. I've heard them several times at hi-fi shows, so it was their setup. I have found them dull and uninvolving. Not neutral, but blah every time, especially in the mids and bass. I've always wondered why people like t...
Moby concert and ear damage?
I got permanent hearing damage - not too bad i don't think - from The Clash. I was young and stupid and my ears were ringing for 3 days.
equating class A to class AB SS amps?
The other point is that many AB amps operate in class A until a certain wattage is reached, then go AB.I used to have a 75 watt (into 8 ohms) class A amp that was beautiful to listen to.
I need help bad
LOL - OK, but my advice still stands. And definitely seperates. You can upgrade the processor as needed, and keep the amp forever (and get it recapped every 10 years).
Should I or should I not? That is the question...
Upgrade - no question at all.

I'd go with used seperates off audiogon. You can do very well for a processor for 1000-1500 tops (krell, rotel, arcam, lexicon, b&k), and the same amount for a 5-channel amp. There's a new Arcam AVP 700 processor for 1200 (which may not be a g...
