which solder do you recommend?
Great info there Rich. I saw that Kester also makes another formulation similar to the one i posted a link to above. The Sn62Pb36Ag02 that i posted is 2% silver whereas the Sn60Pb36Ag04 is 4% silver. I have to assume that this is just as "smoky" a...
Quit vinyl?
Satch: That's great news and i hope you enjoy the benefits of doing some simple yet necessary "investigative work" : )As a side note, our musical tastes do change somewhat with age, but great music is great music. While some rock / pop is very sim...
Do power conditioners help with unwanted hum/noise
Tobias: I'm glad to hear of your results. I've been advocating isolation transformers for several years now and have helped others find suitable models for their given installation. Lak and Psychicanimal can testify to the benefits involved and i'...
Looking to Upgrade Amp & Preamp
Start off by paying attention to the basics. That is, proper installation and positioning of the speakers, a solid AC system and attention to cable routing, clean connections and proper gear installation i.e. a "decent" rack.Once you've got that d...
Loe Reed's speaker reviews
Marco: I agree with your basic comments, but it is hard to argue with the results, especially if one has listened to the speakers mentioned. After all, all of the speakers were treated to the same poor installation and grade of electronics, whatev...
Do power conditioners help with unwanted hum/noise
I think that we are all in agreement here. That is, even dedicated lines, line conditioning, etc... can't solve a problem that is component or system based. How about describing the problem that you're having? Someone here might be able to point y...
Does anyone know about Design Acoustics PS-6a?
Billyhung: I don't see any reason why the combo wouldn't work reasonably well, so long as spl and bass requirements aren't a priority. Whether or not you like the sonic results is a matter of personal preference.Pkaram: Design Acoustics was the fi...
Loe Reed's speaker reviews
Pretty hilarious if you ask me. "I would pay NOT to hear those" referring to the Bose : ) It doesn't surprise me of the two choices that he made. That is, the Logan's represent finesse and detail with speed and clarity whereas the Klipsch represen...
Crackling sound when using a DAC
The NAD doesn't send a continuous digital signal all the time. As such, what you are hearing is the DAC locking and unlocking. This is what i described in my first response. This is a common problem with some specific CD and / or DVD players when ...
Classe DR-9 vs Sunfire Signature
Sunfire doesn't make an amp with dual power cords or blue lights. Schipo is either highly confused or has an agenda. Sean>

From my experience, Cardas melts at a higher temperature than Wonder and would be far from my first suggestion if one is re-flowing existing connections. The key word to that sentence is "flowing" and Cardas doesn't flow all that well. Wonder Sold...
Quit vinyl?
Coffee Nudge's post was great. It is the same response that i've heard from many others AFTER they've had their records cleaned and phono systems properly dialed in. After listening to their "reasonably priced" digital gear for a long time and for...
Do power conditioners help with unwanted hum/noise
Edesilva brings up some valid points, but i'm with Kal on this one. The effectiveness of the power line conditioning in terms of noise & hum will have to do with the source of the noise & hum. If you've got a ground loop, adding a PLC won'...
Europa's Too Lean for Creek?
For reasonable listening levels in a reasonable sized room, i don't think that the Creek would be out of line. They have a pretty decent power supply, meaning that they are capable of driving most speakers within reason and / or putting out enough...
Does anyone know about Design Acoustics PS-6a?
Design Acoustics was the speaker branch of Audio Technica. These were all sealed designs that made use of mediocre drivers ( like most speakers did back then ). The sum of the parts was much better than what any of the individual parts were worth,...
