Bryston 6B availability?
If anyone is considering buying the new Bryston 6B-ST power amp, I suggest you contact Danny Oovlin at "BestofDeal". I have purchased Bryston gear from Danny and found him to be very professional, with very good prices. The easiest way to contact ...
Audio Formats Battle It Out Article
Hi, Trelja. You and I often seem to share the same set of experiences. Fortunately there are few true audiophiles where I work (several serious tube addicts), as well as guy who used to do a jazz radio show on the Univ of Washington campus station...
Bose Infomercial
Over the years, I've read comments in audio reviews and other publications noting the mediocre quality of the audio equipment often owned by professional musicians. The "explanation" sometimes offered is that musicians hear the music clearly in th...
Jazz Review: Art Pepper 5-CD Release
Thank you, both. After I posted my review, I re-read it and wished I had made a few additional points. I was trying, however, to be somewhat succinct, since this was my first effort at writing a review. I learned a few things for next time. In ret...
A meeting by the River....
"A Meeting By The River" has been a favorite "world music" recording of mine for 5 years or so. Kavi Alexander, who owns Water Lily Recordings, is a dedicated audiophile as well as very literate musically. If you enjoy "River" and recordings like ...
Jazz Review: Art Pepper 5-CD Release
I forgot to include the catalog number for the Art Pepper 5-CD release I reviewed above. The catalog number is: Galaxy 5GCD-4431-2. The set can be ordered from Tower Records (see following link), which is slightly cheaper than Amazon.com, AND they...
Upgrade advise: ATI, Bryston, Aragon,
As those who have read my comments know, I'm a big fan of Bryston equipment -- very high value gear. In my HT system, I am currently using a Bryston 4B-ST for the main front speakers (Vandersteen 3A Signatures), and a Bryston 5B-ST for the center ...
5 ch. amps--Parasound; Rotel; Marantz
You don't specify your maximum price range, so let me add a couple of options. At the lowest cost, you might consider the Outlaw 5-channel amp. The relatively new Outlaw line of equipment has gotten very good reviews, and they sell direct via Inte...
TT: Aries or Delphi V
Both are fine TT's, but I'd vote for the VPI Aries, particularly with the JMW-10 arm. I have a VPI HW-19 Mark 4 table (with Rega RB900 arm), but have spent a lot of time listening to an Aries that belongs to a friend, and it is a fine front end. T...
Ok, Here s the list of speaker cables..
Regarding your question about the Kimber 8TC and 4TC being bass shy: that has certainly not been the case in my system. I use 8TC to bi-wire my Vandersteen 3A Signatures from a Bryston 4B-ST, and 4TC to wire my center and surround speakers. The ba...
aragon 8008bb vs bryston 4bst
Well, my vote is for the Bryston. I auditioned the Aragon as well as several other amps in the $2500-3000 price range, and chose the Bryston 4B-ST. No regrets -- a fine amp that certainly deserved its "Class B" rating fromStereopiles.
Removing DC on Cable TV Ground B/W?
As JCBTubes noted, try getting an inexpensive groundbreaker before spending a lot of money on the "MAGIC" unit or MIT's IsoLinQ Groundbreaker unit. Radio Shack carries a groundbreaker that's decent -- I'd start there.
Happy 60th Birthday, Bob Dylan
Jeez, can anyone else see the grim reaper heading your way?
Speaker Upgrade, Vandy 3a, Thiel 3.6 ect
Hi, Mike: Both of the speakers you are considering are excellent, but I concur that the Thiels usually present a greater challenge to the front end than the Vandy's. I currently own the Vandy 3A Signatures, which were preceded by the 3A. The ampli...
Jazz Review
After reading the responses to my post suggesting that members contribute reviews of recordings, I thought I ought to clarify my idea. I did not intend for Audiogon to formally manage a "Reviews" section, although it would be nice if they did. A s...
