Looking at tubes ...
I just got a 1997 vintage Anthem tube preamp. Not much to watch on those tiny filaments! I still have the VU meters on my solid state Son of Ampzilla. And the visualizer in iTunes.

I see someone mentioned RailRoad Earth. I have their entire catalog, can't get enough of these guys. It's all acoustic too.See them live this summer if you can! I know I will on July 1st at Milwaukee Summerfest. They hit all the major festivals.
Is HDCD dead?
Here's a new twist ... As mentioned above, Windows Media Player does HDCD. I use a USB DAC to get that signal into my system. Jerry does sound good floating 8 feet above the speakers. The Jerry Garcia box set is all HDCD, as are the live releases f...

Windows PC to USB DAC. How do you do it ?
Look at the thread I just had going for "USB DAC".You don't need a sound card, you'll be going right from a USB port to your DAC.There are many options for a USB DAC. It just depends on how much you have to spend. You can get a pretty decent one f...
Best bang-for-buck purchase you have made?
Blue Circle USB Thingee DAC. $169 plus a 19.95 3 ft USB gold plated cable from the Shack. It runs everything off my PC in fine fashion. Installation was a no brainer, make sure to set all the levels up on the PC.VBR files seem to sound the best. I...

Budget USB DAC
I have the Blue Circle USB Thingee up and running. I am running off the headphone jack into my preamp.Initial impression is awesome for the money I spent. A lot of dynamaic range, really clean bass. I have not begun the A/B/C testing yet.I can und...
Your First Concert was.....
Double4w ... Yes, Fleetwood Mac opened for Deep Purple in 1974. Bob Welch did vocals/guitar.Savoy Brown was part of the triple bill. Tickets were 4, 5, and 6 bucks.I have a pouch full of ticket stubs from that era.
Pink Floyd best CDs soundwise
The David Gilmour CD "On an Island" and the DVD from the 2006 tour are spectacular sounding.I also like the David Gilmour solo CD from 1978.I'm a little off topic, the Gilmour thread died a long time ago.
Budget USB DAC
Oh no problem Riffer. This is a learning process for all of us.I'm planning on doing an A/B/C comparison of Wav, Apple lossless, and my normal ~320k or VBR files.
Pink Floyd best CDs soundwise
I just listened to Animals, Wish, and DSOTM on CD last night. Both Wish and Animals were remastered. DSOTM seemed to be covered in a veil of haze compared to the other two. I listened to it twice.I'm going all digital, I bought these copies to rep...
Budget USB DAC
I'm getting a Blue Circle USB Thingee. This is the info I got from the Blue Circle dealer:The DAC in the Blue Circle USB Thingee can most certainly be used in lieu of an external DAC. In the UHF review they seemed to focus primarily on using the U...
Budget USB DAC
You are correct Riffer. I just went back in and re-read the UHF review on the Thingee. They were running the signal to another DAC.Think I'll just go out and spend $20 on a Xitel HiFi-LinkĀ™ Audio Processor and be done with it.
