Amen, Photon46, the amount of fascinating modern music coming out of Finland alone beggars belief.Not to mention half the conductors in the world are Finnish.

Yamaha and Nakamichi made some Pre-amps with tuner that were like this, I had a Nak, IMO best looking piece I ever had and musical as well.I was very active in Audio at the time, highly doubt any receivers like that were ever made.

Every speaker Has some limit where it will compress, My Totems are only speaker I ever saw where this limit is statedin specs, for my small monitors its listed at 103 db.Everyone runs into this, some just don't realize it.

How right you are Mofi.I currently have 7 preamps, 4 tube and 3 SS. You never know , one sounds rotten with one amp, sings with another. Not just a case of impedance mis-match either.I hesitate to say it in print but I suspect rooms have an effect...

Newbee , Billy Budd and Peter Grimes have sure stuck .American audiences like warhorses more than europeans, Britten is very popular in Germany, his "Variations on a theme of Frank Bridge" was the theme song on Radio Classic Berlin for a long time...

Beats me fan, I 've heard quite a bit of it live in Germany, Montreal, Tanglewood and Mpls. In Glasgow too, but you'd expect it there.
