Planning audio audition trip to NY/NJ, vendors???
I highly recommend Audio Outlet in Mount Kisko, NY, about an hour's drive north of NYC. Frank Huang is the owner, and he and Mike are very knowledgeable and nice. They carry ARC, Martin Logan, ProAc, Conrad Johnson, Revel, Hovland, and others that...
Bat preamp with ARC amp?
I don't know if you'd be "better off" using all BAT, but I use an ARC VT100 MkIII w/BAT VK30-SE and love the combo. The BAT replaced an ARC LS-15, and I personally like the BAT better. Very user-friendly w/volume matching, input naming, etc. I als...
How do you all store CDs?
If you have the wall space, build or have someone build you some shallow, narrow built-in bookcases. You can use cheap wood and stain it cherry or spring for real cherry. My brother built some for me one weekend out of pine, I painted them white t...
Need Advice on Surround Speakers for my System...
Both Vienna Acoustics and Linn also make a good rear speaker w/shallow cabinet that can be mounted on the wall. I esp. liked the vienna acoustics model, I can't remember the model name right now.
Best Recordings I heard in 2001
Scott, thank you SO MUCH for your list! I wish everyone would contribute at such length, so I can use my two $100 gift certificates (Borders and Amazon) to absolute best effect in the next couple of months! I also bought, on your recommendation in...
Best thread poster for 2001?
I thought the guy who demo'd all those expensive and super-expensive (ie Valhalla) cables and then wrote lengthy, detailed comments on his impressions did a GREAT job, very informative. Was that Jtinn or someone else?
Monitor speakers - choices to narrowed down to...
Sticking to the B&W theme, I owned the Matrix 805's (predecessor to the Nautilus recommended above) for years without a sub and never noticed the lack of bass. They are often for sale used here for around $800. They are simply fabulous monitor...
Any audio gifts for Christmas?
I bought myself some interconnects for an "extra" system in the guest room, plus a power cord for a backup CD player. All very cheap! Then family and a friend gave me a big gift certificate for Borders, a bigger one for Amazon, and the remastered ...
What recomendation would you give me ........
I currently use a 3 meter Ensemble Dynaflux, and I used to use a Transparent Ultra XL between my LS-15 and VT100 Mk III. Both sound great, the Transparent is usually available used for a good price.
....expanding from car audio into home...need help
Outlaw Audio makes a very good, very inexpensive home theater receiver, I think it's the model 750, email member "underwoodwally" for info on where to purchase one new. They are only about $600 I think.
would it be a huge mistake?
I own Genesis 500's and have had them for 5+ years, I would highly recommend them and other Genesis products despite the company's going out of business. They are great products. I guess if a driver goes bad, you'll have to do some research to get...
Power amp recommendation for Vienna Mahler
Hi, I listened extensively to the Mahlers w/solid state, ie, Goldmund Mimesis 29 and Levinson monoblocks, and they sounded fabulous. Side firing bass woofers require control, I don't think the small ARC will do it. The Jeff Rowland is probably a b...
wanna know my right
Yes, you only have the right to rescind the deal and get your money back. You can't force them to upgrade the unit for the same price!
Skinny speakers and wretched excess
Couldn't you buy a dedicated well-designed center channel and place it either on a shelf in the stand, right below your screen, or on its own stand below the screen, if your screen is on the wall and not on a rack? That seems to me to be the bette...
Best Packaging in the Business
Ayre Acoustics beyond a doubt. Both my amp and preamp were so well-sealed even UPS couldn't hurt 'em.
