Are all streamers the same?
The difference is usually found in the shielding, power supply and software. Many people think that stuff doesn't make a difference I guess.
Graphene Sluggo - Unlocking Sonic Scenery
Agreed that the additional power cable needed could be an issue. I use my own DIY cables so it really didn’t come up for me. But using their pigtail with your regular power cable throws another variable into the sound equation. As to potential lia...
Graphene Sluggo - Unlocking Sonic Scenery
I think any component with a decent power supply can benefit from a SDFB. If you have a high current power amp (requiring say a 10A fuse) a SDFB with graphene sluggo is REALLY good. But I've noticed power supplies that require less amperage may so...
Aftermarket fuse to tame a bright system?
Got to be careful with so-called "silver" cables. Most of them are silver plated over copper or worse tin plated over copper. Pure silver cables are very expensive and take forever to break-in. But once they do there is nothing bright or harsh abo...
Denarips and Vinshine split
@nonoise says: "Denafrips also sells lessor quality spec'd units that look the same on AliEpxress." Wow, just another reason to stay away from Denafrips.
Denarips and Vinshine split
The point is Denafrips sells outside of the dealer network (grey market). For example, Vinshine Audio is currently trying to sell a USED Venus 12th for $3,649. New Venus 12ths are listed on AliExpress for as low as $2,543, Pontus 15th $1,653, Term...
Denarips and Vinshine split
Just go to AliExpress, search for Denafrips and you'll know instantly what "grey market" means and how it would destroy a reputable dealer.
Do You Have to Play a Component to Warm it Up?
Let your ears tell you. I let my system play for about an hour at low levels before doing any serious listening.
Solid State Power Amps
Looking at the impedance curve that @hilde45 posted tells us you need an amp that can handle impedances that dip below 3 ohms. So, make sure any amp you look at produces enough CURRENT to handle that load. Don't worry too much about watts since th...
8 ohm nominal impedance/4.69 ohm minimal impedance--is this a bad load (on paper)?
On paper, a 4 ohm load is reasonable. BUT it all depends on your amp. The amp must be able to deliver sufficient current when the 4 ohm load is hit. I’ve seen name brand receivers shut down and poorly designed tube amps, with insufficient output t...
Why I don't hear bass drums on Jazz LPs?
@bdp24 - Very interesting. thanks for sharing!
Replacement for Shindo
I've owned lots of Shindo gear. Don Better has a Montille 391 available right now. There are lots of discussion threads on what amps are "comparable" to Shindo but be warned its a pandora's box…..everyone has their opinion.
OCD mickey website and negativity.
I generally agree with what hilde45 said. I would add, Mickey is a refreshing alternative to the "everything sounds great if they advertise with us" magazines and the "only measurements can tell the truth" people out there. He has strong opinions ...
Does it make sense to "ignore low ball offers"?
@elrod - yeah I agree with that. You respond and are open to another offer. My only difference is I give him a counteroffer. If he doesn't respond or gives me another stupid low offer then its over.
Does it make sense to "ignore low ball offers"?
@mitch2 - You say: "I certainly understand why others choose not to respond to low offers." Why do think it is they don't respond?  The negotiation has to start somewhere.  If the potential buyer continues to make stupid low offers then its time t...
