Electrostatic Speakers David, where do you reside and frequent? Maybe we can find you somewhere to listen? Cheers,Spencer
What is the best 5k-plus Preamp with balanced outs and Phono stage? Going with separate phono stage might not necessarily offer better value due to costs of a separate chassis and power supply, but I would still suggest it because separating those will often give better sound quality. Better phono stages often hav...
Electrostatic Speakers @davidclarke, Relationships between distributors and manufacturers are a funny thing and have an often dark life of their own. If all your communication has been through the distributor, perhaps talking directly with Quad would be worth a shot vs....
Does a ripped cd onto a digital format sound better than the cd played on the cdp Lots of great comments in this thread.IMHE, while I agree that it's hard to single out any one of the factors already mentioned as the only important one, that best overall path to improved digital is moving away from spinning discs. Then moving a...
Arm suitability have you run the numbers on the vinylengine calculator tool to check resonance? Cheers,Spencer
Questions to ask as I shop for a tonearm? @williewonka Thanks for that post. I just bought an Audiomods V, which is at Sota to be mounted on the new Series Six Nova they are building for me now. My hunt (discussed in another thread) came down to the Audiomods or the new Jelco 850, 950s. ...
So I have a DAC; now what Player should I look at? @audioengr Steve, ever try Lumin app with that setup? vs. Kinsky & Kazoo, it’s got a mighty friendly GUI. Plays well w/mimimserver. Cheers,Spencer
Recommendation for DAC needed. Yggy certainly plays high rez to 24/192. Don't see much source material higher than that. It doesn't do DSD, so if ripping SACDs is your thing, look elsewhere. BTW, Darko's reviews and news on Analog 2 etc. are worthwhile reads. Cheers,Spencer
Recommendation for DAC needed. The only thing that I found significantly better than my Gumby is very pricey Aqua Formula. Improving what feeds it is often neglected and can make a bigger difference than what you might expect. Cheers, Spencer
Questions to ask as I shop for a tonearm? @toschsii,You're being very smart to ask those questions. It's a complicated and often frustrating subject for some. You are lucky that there are many helpful experts here. I would suggest paying close attention to comments from@almarg @raulariega...
So I have a DAC; now what Player should I look at? Synology or QNAP NAS & a Sonore microRendu would be hard to beat. Search archives, so many times similar has recently been answered. Cheers, Spencer
Wanted: Suggestions for driving Celestion SL600 Speakers! Call Mark O'Brien at Rogue and ask him about his newer integrateds. The tube magic that you found appealing will be there, but his gear has come a long way since they made the 90s. IIRC, those are pretty efficient speakers and don't need a ton of ...
Emotiva equipmet, how good is it? Used NAD like you were considering before or something new-direct from Schiit Audio are going to sound worlds better than the Emotiva or Yamaha IMHE. What exactly is your budget. Are you looking for an integrated amp? Your speakers both are promis...
Cowsills @bdp24 Great shout out for the Continental Drifters. One of those bands I love that hardly anybody seems to know. Vermillion is a real gem! There's a really good documentary on the Cowsills that's on tv once in a while on AXS or VH1...if you fans ...
