Sonore Opticalrendu vs Auralic Aries G1.1
@jjss49 thanks for that last statement, I have been wondering if an Eno filter would improvement the already impressive performance of my opticalRendu.  @badgerdms MAYBE useful, before the G1 came out, I compared a microRendu (without optical) vs...
Disappearing Jazz?
There's tons of jazz new and recent. Qobuz and Qobuz with Roon even more so are fantastic ways to find it.  WRTI Jazz out of Temple University is another.  Be sure to explore the ECM label. Over the last few decades they're put out uncompromsing...
Animals 2018 Mix LP - Mistracking?
Mike at the In Groove mentioned that Animals has a 40% return for defect rate, higher than any other LP in years. Cheers, Spencer
Good Baritone Sax Recording?
Serge Chaloff - both Blue Serge and Boston Blow Up are oustanding.
OPPO 105 VS Schiit Gungnir
I've previously owned both and agree the Gumby is head and shoulders above the Oppo's DAC. I'd also suggest considering Denafrips Ares II vs. Gumby for even a bit less money. A better streamer than the Oppo won't cost much either. microRendu + Gum...
Tube preamp options
@axo0oxa I didn't say the Backert preamps don't have XLR inputs or outputs. I said that the circuit isn't fully balanced. That's not the same thing. Lots of manufacturers add xlrs for convenience and compatability, but fully balanced circuitry add...
Tube preamp options
@rmdmoore "jerryrig" is a harsh term, but you are correct in that XLR connectors don't imply a true balanced design, and that's not the case here. @big_greg would know, but I thought the Herron also is not balanced.  Our mutual friend, @tomic601,...
Anyone Still Using Zerodust
I've been using Magic Eraser & dry brush for years, ever since @dougdeacon and others explain@bkeske and some other friends are fans of Blutak, including a Soundsmith employee. @mulveling any opinion/concern regarding comments like "Magic era...
In praise of the duet.
Emmy Lou is a harmony slut...she gets around 😉
In praise of the duet.
@bdp24 Yes, I've been a fan of Continental Drifters from day1, as well as the DBs.  Here's a good clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UDXdEoTWOU

Backert, VAC, ARC Ref6 all are worthy contenders. I'd search hard regarding VTL service issues before considering.  ARC is known for synergy with Vandersteen...a proven winning combo for many. IMHO this is partially because the Vandy adjustabilit...
In praise of the duet.
Check out the series Under The Covers by Matthew Sweet & Susannah Hoffs(Bangles), especially Vol1. which is all '60s songs. There are two others covering '70s & '80s songs. Cheers, Spencer
Streamed music sounds awful in my system and I don't know why ....
@itsjustme The raise a number of great points: Basically it's all about the noise from a computer. Fighting is possible but for those who computers aren't their passion, it's not worth the fight. Get a low power single-purpose device with a simpl...
BAT VK-51SE in the rig!
Leaving on standby keeps them warm and reduces wear, but I wouldn't leave it on 24/7. My habit has been go standby if running errands for an hour or two mid-listening, but turn it off otherwise. Just because the tubes last long doesn't mean I want...
BAT VK-51SE in the rig!
@jl1ny Congrats, like we discussed, it's a great preamp. No need to worry about tube rolling...there are no vintage 6H30s out there with sonic advantages over current production unless many other tube types.  My only advise is when changing other...
