Latest Sam Phillips CD outstanding
Avalon,I've been a fan of hers for years. I agree w/Marco that Martinis & Bikinis is excellent. Other great releases of hers include "The Indescribable Wow" & "Cruel Inventions". The Turning and Fan Dance aren't up to the standard of the o...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Rush,Another to add to any short list of Reggae Classics should also include the soundtrack to the the film "The Harder They Come", which is often filed under Jimmy Cliff. Although it features many artists such as Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy usua...
What readily available LP's should I consider
2nd on Rushton's recommendationa of the 45rpm Fantasy Jazz reissues and the Speakers Corner classical reissues. For less coin, white label test pressings of Analog Productions from Acoustic Sounds sound great, and can be had for < $20. For exam...
Thiel 7.2: amps suggestions please
Manley or VTL big monoblocks. Like you said, the more power, the better. Perhaps the large Atma-Spheres, but even that may not be enough. Not too many options that I know of. I've seen them demoed with Audio Research monos, but IMHO, you can do be...
The best tuner

Seeking $15,000.00 speaker to replace Quad 988's
I went from Quad ESL63USA's to Merlin VSM-MX, and couldn't be happier. The Quads were used as a reference for the midrange sound when the Merlins were designed. Many Merlin owners are former 'stat owners, and they mate particularly well with tube ...
Monitors:JM Lab, Proac, Revel, Soliloquy or Totem?
These are all decent products, and it will come down to personal taste. As long as price is close, just trust your ears. If you can't go listen to them, that's another story. Personally, I think the Totems and the Proacs are the best of this bunch...
Trelja's new tube amplifiers - Granite 860.1
Nick,You have a great sounding combo; just like what Trelja & I were listening to this past weekend. FWIW, I would recommend:Keep the BAM on all the time; do use thru the tape loop, and do all serious listening in the 100% battery mode. You mi...
Keith Jarrett Recomendations
The Koln Concert is the one for me...But like everyone said, hard to pin it down. He's a talent, that's for sure. Cheers, Spencer
Trelja's new tube amplifiers - Granite 860.1
Swampwalker, One follow-up comment to Trelja's last post...We know for sure that Joe prefer's the Berning sans Joule preamp. However, when some of our group next compare the Bernings(stock & modded) with/without preamp using another contender,...
A.A. Capitole..unfortunately not yet..$$$$$$
Devon,For $20, try a Herbie Grungebuster CD mat on your CDs. A small easy step in the right direction...Cheers, Spencer
What tubed preamp that is not too fussy ?
Audio Research LS7 or Conrad Johnson PV10 would be good for a few reasons:- relatively many out there, so not too tough to find- well known widely distributed, thus easier to resell- good sound for the price- easy to use, easy to roll tubes if you...
Good looking tube amp suggestions
How about the Pathos Classic One? It certainly has cool art deco looks! I never heard one, but I'm sure others could comment on its sound. Cheers, Spencer
CAT SL1 - is there enough GAIN using 0.4mV mc??
You also might want to call Ken Stevens and ask him, as I did. He would be the one who knows best...Cheers,Spencer
Berning ZH-270 Amplifier,Which Speaker?
Okay,Another Merlin recommendation, but this one from an MX owner. I would agree w/Oneprof that Merlins aren't likely to often be described first-and-foremost as "laid back", but they are when the music is. The MX is almost flat to 25hz where the ...
