FLAC On A Mac "Oppo will play WAV, not AIFF." That is not correct. I owned an Oppo 105 and 105D and both play AIFF fine. I did this using the digital inputs on both the front and the back with no issues. Seen many other Oppo owners do the same. What do you mea...
Any options for low power class A amps? Guess I'm too late, but was going to suggest Berning microZOTL. Cheers,Spencer
FLAC On A Mac Check your settings in XLD PREFERENCES>GENERAL tab and make sure you have it set to AIFF. If it's set to FLAC, it will bounce because there would be nothing to convert going from FLAC to FLAC. Cheers,Spencer
Digital media server/players for a Skeptic? Whether it's Pi, microRendu(my fav, but $650 + power supply cost) or other server, in most cases you will want to rip the music files to a NAS and send the digital output of the server/streamer to a separate dac. Yes, you can get a cheap built-in ...
CD ripping Correct, no special hardware needed, just a standard external disk drive. Cheers,Spencer
Speakers for 15K - Discounts Markup is higher on cables than anything else. Cheers,Spencer
Preamps-Tube The Backert Labs preamps are pretty amazing, especially at that price. I've heard them in a number of systems and have always been impressed. I am guessing that they have a bright future. Cheers,Spencer
Digital media server/players for a Skeptic? Since you sound enthusiastic about Linux servers, etc. check out Raspberry Pi 3 an incredible non-profit project that has evolved into a whole community etc. Computer audiophile has many discussions on it in the context you would want. NAS/storage...
FLAC On A Mac If you drag the XLD icon to the bar at the bottom of your screen it will stay there all the time. Then whenever you open Finder and drag a file down to the icon at the bottom, XLD will open and start converting. Cheers,Spencer
Digital media server/players for a Skeptic? With all due respect, honestly it sounds like this isn't the hobby for you. You sound like nothing is worth the trouble. With audio the devil is in the details. If you don't believe in "all the audio hoodoo", don't even bother to understand what f...
Joule Electra preamps and amps. What is your impression? Well said @larryi !!!Perhaps @atmasphere would care to share a list of some of the other brands that are popular with his speakers. Joule Electra preamps and amps. What is your impression? Rich Brkich just listed an LA150 line stage for $1500, considering your comment, quite a deal for you @Inna.When you get to the amp upgrade, perhaps @atmasphere 's OTLs using the 6AS7 will be a better fit for you. M60s, MA2s are long-standing fix...
Joule Electra preamps and amps. What is your impression? I've owned two Joule preamps and Joule phono stages. I agree with the characterizations above. The preamps are rich tonally, and work great with a variety of amps both ss & tube. These days they are a nice value used. Rich Brkich at Signature ...
Shorten my speaker cables? The other thing that will help besides going to shorter speaker cables is to go to longer interconnects and move the gear away from in between the speakers. Cheers,Spencer
VPI 3D printed arm mod. When Harry changed from 12.6 to 12.7 he brought back adjustable fluid damping. IMHE it was a big improvement and continues to be useful. What I hear contradicts @stringreen 's comment above about closing in the sound and eliminating air. That's wh... |
