Streamer with PLEX-like UI and companion app? Or sending PLEX stream through DAC?
@yage The NAS and TV aren't far away, but it would require a cable running across the living room floor, which would for sure be a no-go with the wife. I stumbled on the Zen Stream device which may be a solution. I think I could sell him on Audir...
Any audible difference between cheap and expensive BNC cables?
The verdict is in. It made a surprisingly nice improvement in sound. I wanted to give it a decent amount of listening time before coming to any conclusions.@blueskywalker I don't think it sounds at all different after a couple weeks of listening t...
Any audible difference between cheap and expensive BNC cables?
I ended up ordering the Nordost Silver Shadow BNC. The reviews are all positive ones but still vague comments like "music became more real sounding", "very fast cable", "makes digital sound less digital", "open and detailed", "detailed with natura...
Any audible difference between cheap and expensive BNC cables?
@lowrider57 I understand with speaker cable that you'll get different sound from different materials, e.g. silver producing a brighter sound that copper. But that's analog. With a digital signal, how can the sound be colored differently from cable...
Any audible difference between cheap and expensive BNC cables?
@tantejuut It looks like that company is in Canada so I’d probably have to deal with import duties and I don’t know what else if I wanted to return it. I also haven’t heard of Take Five or VH audio. What do you mean by low level detail? I’m unsur...
Qutest vs Yggdrasil Analog 2 vs Gungnir Multibit
I'm shying away from anything with preamp or headphone capabilities. I'm not a fan of having extra circuitry and features that I would never use. I once steered away from an integrated that I was interested in specifically because it had inputs fo...
Qutest vs Yggdrasil Analog 2 vs Gungnir Multibit
Thanks. I'm quite fond of the Schiit sound. The filter modes (Neutral, Neutral HF roll-off, Warm, Warm HF roll-of) on the Chord peak some interest. I wonder if the Warm filters would give the Chord a more laid back sound option. Not sure how drast...
Is it common for tubes to outweigh the cost of the amp or preamp?
@rodman99999 Are date codes kind of like serial numbers for tubes? My new tubes are date codes 262990 and 262928. I don't know the significance of the codes but I assume it's good that they're close in number. They're also rated:16.8mA/15.8mA & ...
Is it common for tubes to outweigh the cost of the amp or preamp?
Thoroughly enjoyed. But now wondering what these tubes will cost in 2050. I've got another 40 years of listening left in me. Longer if I download my brain into a robot.
Is it common for tubes to outweigh the cost of the amp or preamp?
@testpilot 300B tubes can often exceed the cost of the amp.  WOW! You aren't kidding. The manufacturer of my amp has a pair for $2k, FOR THE PAIR! Insanity. I'm feeling like I got off easy now.
Is it common for tubes to outweigh the cost of the amp or preamp?
@jtcf One way to save a few $$ is to buy ugly tubes and pairs and quads that were all manufactured the same but we're labeled for various companiesI was originally going to pick up 3-4 pairs of those to experiment with because they were so cheap. ...
Is it common for tubes to outweigh the cost of the amp or preamp?
@rodman99999  Thanks. I think I'll have saved in the end by going for the gusto from the start and nixing the upgrade bug. The worst is doing a moderate upgrade and feeling like you've sidestepped more than stepped up and just kind of wasted your ...
Is it common for tubes to outweigh the cost of the amp or preamp?
@mijostyn Thanks. I'll look into those tubes. I'll be moving the NOS Siemens & Halske' to the WA2 next year when I do that upgrade which will leave two empty sockets in the WA3. Might give the RAM Labs a test and shelf them for when I upgrade....
Is it common for tubes to outweigh the cost of the amp or preamp?
After some listening I am very happy with the purchase. From minute one, before any warming up or burning in, I noticed a significant improvement. The new tubes have added so much detail to the highs and tightened up the low end which is resulting ...
Is it common for tubes to outweigh the cost of the amp or preamp?
I appreciate all the feedback :)I will chime in after work on the replies.FYI the amp is a Woo Audio WA3. I've been using a Centrance Hifi-M8 for years with my HD800's and I've loved it. It was only recently when I picked up HD820's and plugged in...
