Which subwoofer should I get?
Especially as you want the app and other features and a sealed sub, check out the Arendal 1723 1s or 2s, as its sound characteristics is said to be between the SVS and REL.  Many reviews on YouTube, especially Nemo Propaganda as he covers all the ...
There Is Nothing Like the Real Thing - Our State of the Art
This is perhaps the most covered topic on REGs audio forum.  (REG is Robert Greene, the longtime reviewer in TAS.) The two speakers which immediately wowed me as they had a live music vibe re their spaciousness, imaging and even tonality were the...
Bogus Ratings for MOFI SACD's
Have you heard the Bernie Grundman mastered cd that is part of her recent box sets? It’s hard for me to imagine it sounding much better.
Can you recommend Jazz for some one that doesn't like Jazz?
The classic Wayne Shorter Blue Note albums See No Evil, Juju and Adam’s Apple. He played sax with Joni Mitchell and the sax solo on Aja.  As a composer and player he’s so “lyrical” I can’t imagine any music lover not liking him.
Room is way too bright.
As Magnepans essentially don’t radiate to the sides, I’ve found them to be much more forgiving of rooms with glass on the sidewalls. I can open my blinds all the way and the sound is still good, just a bit “lighter” in tonality.
55” or 65” TV Screen Size and Your Speakers: Please Join Survey
I have 77” Sony a80j (from a few years ago) OLED and have never noticed any stuttering on any content. Most reviews have said that the a95l is the very best TV you can buy and I’ve never heard the stuttering issue mentioned on other reviews (eg D...
Speaker Suggestions for Next Move
If depth, scale and live music vibe is what you’re looking for, why not Magnepans? That’s why I have them.
Help needed with new integrated amp.
I have the LRS+ in my bedroom system and never felt the midrange was forward and is quite similar to the midrange on my 1.7i in my main system. The LRS+ is being driven by my old Adcom 545II. I’ve noticed that the speakers being further apart an...
Need suggestions on preamp
I got the LRS+ for my bedroom 2.1 home theater system and assumed I’d have to get a new amp.  (I use the Benchmark as my dac/pre.) I  discovered my old Adcom 545II sounded so good (in terms of detail and bass) that at least in this context, I’m n...
Subwoofers
Check out the reviews (e.g. Audioholics) of the Arendal 1723, they have both ported and sealed versions. I have the smaller 1961 sealed version in my 2.1 bedroom system.  It integrates easily with my Magnepans but still has plenty of oomph for mo...
Decisions, decisions, decisions
I presume you’re talking about the Nelson Pass designed Adcom 545 II. It’s funny- I recently got the Magnepan LRS+ for a bedroom 2,1 system and assumed I’d have to get a new amp. Much to my surprise, my old Adcom 545II drives the Maggies so well...
Subwoofer Advice
Were the Spires in a different position or room? (As an experiment, you could reverse the speaker cable on one of the speakers and see how it sounds.)
Subwoofer Advice
Is there any possibility that your speakers are wired out of phase? It seems so odd that you didn’t have this issue with the Spires.
Speaker Cables For $300
DH Labs Silver Sonic- Q10. It’s silver clad over copper which to my ears provides a cooler (but not bright) sound with great extension on both ends.
Magnepan 3.7i amp pairing
With my LRS+ in my bedroom home theater system, I notice that even during pure dialogue scenes  (and using a 35 hz crossover) the sound changes slightly when I turn on the sub. I imagine some may prefer this but I can’t help but feel that the pur...
