Tube Pre-amp recommendations for Maggie 3.6 Have you played with different cables? What isn't your system doing now that you would like it to do?Thanx,Russ
Burn-in time Vs. Getting used to a sound It's funny how after burn-in everything always sounds better. I've never heard someone say; "After a complete and long burn-in the [component name here] sounded like crap." I fully believe that complex electrical components need some run-in time t...
Can you ever go back and be happy? Yes you can. What will not work is going from a good system down to a system that has no redeeming features at all. They are a zillion really good systems out there and they all sound different.Thanx,Russ
What's your latest "Discovery" Mindy Smith, nice ballads. A young voice kinda like a young Dolly Parton but don't let that put you off, it's a VERY good album and I'm not a country music guy.
Why "Cryo" anything? Cyro treatment magically re-aligns the molecules without the object changing shape, Huh? About the only thing that changes is the weight of your wallet. I'm still willing to keep an open mind but the anecdotal evidence I've seen is not convincing....
Norah Jones? I've only heard/own the CD "Come away with me". My system is towards the warm side and I think that adds some depth to her voice. On my system she sounds top notch. One of my very favorites. Recording quality is way good enough for me. I skip the ...
What do you listen to when no one else can hear it If you want a Mancini album that really cooks try "The Big Latin Band". The recording quality is exceptional for it's time, hell it's good for even now! Most of the songs are not Mancini's so they aren't on any other albums/CD's. I loved it as a k...
Dual-Disc Destined to fail? This reporter thinks so I hate to say this on this forum but the average customer is happy with CD's just the way they are. They don't see SACD or DVD-A as an improvement, it's just another format to them, one they don't want to switch to.Thanx,Russ
What do you listen to when no one else can hear it Second on The Monkees! The Grass Roots, No Doubt, Weird Al and don't tell anyone, Henry Mancinni!Thanx,Russ
Senior Audiophiles - Audiophile since the 60-70's? I'm 51 but my Dad gave me his giant home made labyrinth 2way coax loudspeaker when I was 14 and I've been at it from then on. It was mono driven by a 40's vintage Bogen integrated and a 45 player. Never saw another tube set until the late 90's, no...
Conrad Johnson PV10AL or PV10BL Preamp? I had a PV10BL up until recently and I really liked it. It has the Conrad-Johnson type sound but I loved it. I did have to play with cables a bit before I got the top end I was looking for. It's warm and sweet but all in the best way.Thanx,Russ
quicksilver amps and preamps any thoughts ?? I use a Mini-Mite pair with the Cary SLP-98 preamp and I can tell you it is dead quiet and very musical. The Quicksilvers are a very nice amps if you don't mind the simple appearance.Thanx,Russ
B&W exposed tweeter on top design.... Didn't Klipsh horn put the tweeter exposed on top of the Klipsh Horn, 1940's? ThanxRuss
Conrad Johnson PV10A-Which Tubes ? When to Change? Fredman,I have a PV10BL. I liked the standard 6189's that come from the factory but I tried some CV4003's? Mullards. Not all tubes will work, the C-J needs a very quiet tube or it's snap, crackle, pop! The JAN (Joint Army-Navy) Phillips 6189 are V...
Antique Sound Labs Wave Justin,Get the covered ones, the transformers are not pretty and you can still see the tubes glowing through the slots in the cover. Plus you get the removable cord. You'll love the little guys. I have a system that I spent less than $1000 for and... |
