What's your favorite Audiophile label, and why? Viridian, most of the early MSFL releases I have were mastered by Ricker (mastered is appropo here). In Stan we Trust...
What's your favorite Audiophile label, and why? MFSL, although I am stunned that Nrchy would believe that the new releases sound better than the old. FOr my ears, nothing I have ever heard even approaches the quality of the early releases.
Who's Your Favorite Bass Players; Why? Another vote for Dave Holland. An outstanding musician although I have to admit, I'm mildly disappointed with his latest stuff which appears more refined but less interesting.
Best Neil Young Album? Curbach: Come on dude. Anyone that doesn't think the lyrical content of 'mideast vacation' on Life isn't at least amusing should get a L...
Best Quality Recording On Vynil MFSL release of American Beauty by Grateful Dead. A real classic.
Which Conrad Johnson pre is a step-up from PFR? I suspect that the PFR was probably the best value product ever offered by CJ. I have no doubt that the Overhang has experienced a superior product with the 16LS2 but for what price - $8000 new and $5k to $6K used on the open market? I consider my...
Best Used Solid State Amp for less than $5000? Uh...4Yanx....I have a confession to make. I pulled the trigger about 6 months ago and purchased the Ayre V-5x. Guess that puts me in Bigtee camp now, doesn't it? I sent mu unit to Ayre two weeks ago to have the evolution upgrade. Funny that Bigte...
Who is your overall favorite guitarist? Jorma Kaukonen. A talented guitarist that has just gotten better and better....
Speaker for Threshold amp and preamp My short list:Hales T8'sVandersteen Model 5'sThiel CS6Montana's (model #?)Dunlavey model 4a'sI have heard both the Hales and the Dunlavey's. Both are excellent. The Vandersteen has been remarked as sounding similiar to the T8's.
Discs you play again and again Pehare: great suggestion. The early Metheny discs are a real treat. Folk Songs on "80/81", especially the last part when Charlie Haden's bass kicks in gives me shivers every time I listen to it. Also, "New Chautauga" (sp?) is equally great.
Hi rez: Led Zep and the Beatles Hope this thread isn't limitted to SACD. I have LZep 3 and 4 releases by CLassic Records and 3 is nothing short of amazing. 3 has a lot of acoustic cuts are fabulously rendered on this LP. 4 is very good as well.
Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better? Maineiac: I was wondering when someone was going to suggest the Lector. Not a universal player but does have the added benefit of playing SACD too.Is there anonye out there that can compare it to the DV-50?
Amplifier reviews from Hardesty's The Ayre is not an amp that wil grab you by the throat. When I first heard it, to be truthful, I was a little disappointed. FOr myself, it reresented a very subtle improvement over my threshold S300 (really, a testament to the threshold). Yet when...
Ayre V5X, Sim Moon W5 vs. BC-28. I know nothing of theBlue Circle unit. However both the Ayre and the Sim were on my short list (along with the Pass X350, Rowland Model 10, and Plinius SA 250Iv). I ended up with the Ayre (which replaced an older Threshold unit). The Ayre definite...
Good preamp suggestion for around $1000 I've seen conrad johnson PFR's advertised for $600 on ebay. Nothing even comes close to this in terms of sound for the money IMO. |
