Vinyl collection, now what?
@ lalitk Thanks, yes I really enjoy it and don't worry at all about what might be better.  Sounds like you are putting something special together.  The Shindo sounds intriguing, I often consider a tubed front end and would definitely look at tha...
Vinyl collection, now what?
Hey cleeds, I know it's nit-picking but you posted; I'm not familiar with that software and process, but I do agree that a carefully made digitized file is audibly indistinguishable from the original LP. I'm sure you meant to type, a carefully ma...
Vinyl collection, now what?
Hleeid, first let me apologize for the rest of them here. Vinyl lovers are by definition nice people but open minds are not a membership requirement. I am the world’s biggest vinyl lover, have been for decades. I am also in the process of (slowly)...
vpi classic
Hey Oleschool, you mention your Benz is about 10 years old.  Have you looked into re tipping or even a rebuild/upgrade?  Sometimes people decide they need a new cart but what they want most is the sound they remember from when the unit was young.
vpi classic
Earlier Slaw12 posted; I think you'd be happy with a SoundSmith. I have had a Soundsmith Zephyr Star on my Classic for about two years now and love it.  To describe the Zephyr's performance on my deck in one word I would have to choose effortles...
Are the loudness wars fake so record companies can destroy the music?
N80, just a comment. You posted, "Vinyl seems less likely to be but is hardly immune. So the format is not the issue."How is an LP, recorded and mastered on a digital deck a different format than a CD. The compression and other insults occur in th...
Jazz is not Blues and Blues is not Jazz.......
Music is just 'music' until someone puts a label on it.As the Duke said "there are simply two kinds of music, good music and the other kind ... the only yardstick by which the result should be judged is simply that of how it sounds. If it sounds g...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
The 45 RPM reissues of Doug MacLeod's Come to Find and Mighty Sam McClain's Give it up to Love.  Two gorgeous sounding albums that really benefit from the 45 RPM format.
VPI Classic setup tools
Counter Intuitive is the single most important thing you will ever add to the setup. Without it reliable azimuth adjustments are much harder it also aids VTF adjustment.
Frequency response off with test record
The test record I purchased had a spindle hole so off center the tonearm was wagging in and out about 1/8" every revolution.  Speed, wow and flutter tests looked incredible. LSD incredible :)
Another review of a tweaked Denon DL-103R ??? Oh no! Boring? Surely not! Please read it!
chakster, why do you seem so bent on getting ultima700 to recant his praise or replace the cartridge?   The guy likes it, I'm happy that he's happy.  Also the product he describes is NOT a rebuild or retrofit or whatever gets done to carts that ne...
Second hand vinyl surface damage.
If this has already been noted sorry for the repeat.  If you are buying an LP that had one or two blockbuster hits check those tracks to see if they look more worn than the rest.  If you see this you are probably looking at a record that was purch...
Downside to "revealing" system?
Without some details regarding what unlistenable means I can’t begin to speculate on the source of your dissatisfaction. Does UL mean worn out, excess surface noise, thin brittle sound, lack of dynamics, distortion and fidelity issues? The issue I...
Are my standards too high?
Are your standards too high?  YES, also not based in any reality I have encountered.  As for your 'perfect' standards, sounds like the 'perfect' sound of early CDs.  As for this infatuation with sub-40 Hz, are you actually listening to material wi...
