Yesterday I was listening to an interesting collection of Concertos for Saxophone. As many will know, the saxophone was invented in the 19th Century (1840-41), but was only gradually accepted into the classical music literature. Here are three mar...
Classical Record Labels and Recording Engineers...
giles130 wrote "Don't forget lyricon, a small Swedish label..."  Thanks for this suggestion! I greatly enjoy organ music but my collection contains no recordings from Lyricon. I appreciate your recommendation to explore this label.
Classical Record Labels and Recording Engineers...
tzh21y, you do a service to remind us of Kenneth Wilkinson and the series of recordings he was commissioned to engineer by Readers Digest. Not only did Wilkinson and the Decca recording team make great contract recordings for Readers Digest, but m...

spl, Astree is a great addition and is a label whose recordings I've long admired. Their chamber music recordings are some of the most realistic in my collection and I'm pleased to now know the name of Dr Benjamin Bernfeld as the author of many of...

if you don't know what it is, if you hear what sounds like loud tearing of newspapers for short sections that's it Yes, it sounds like the stylus has been ripped off you cantilever and only that is now dragging in the groove.
Why would anyone want 180g records ?
the worse this is 180/200g non fill... terrible I agree with you about the non-fill, audiotomb. Oddly, notwithstanding all the 180g purchases I made in that early era, I never experienced this problem. I think I must have lived a charmed purchasin...
Why would anyone want 180g records ?
As others have noted, the key to high quality LPs is not the weight of the vinyl in and of itself.  I have 120g records that sound simply marvelous. I have 140g records that are to die for. I have 180g records that are stunning. I have 200g recor...

Modern Times is without question one of Dylan’s best albums. In every way, lyrically, musically, voice, what have you.geoffkaitt, it certainly is very good and I'll probably put it back to the TT again this weekend.

By the way, a great album of his from the early 70's, Planet Waves, has just been released on LP and SACD by Mobile Fidelity.  The original LP on Asylum had a very organic, unproduced sound quality, recorded with The Band in a couple of days. G...
