Is Direct Drive Really Better?
Lloyd Walker tells an amusing story that some of you may have heard... he was demonstrating his Proscenium turntable at a show a few years back when some attendees came in to talk with him about why he didn't use a high torque direct drive design ...
Classic Records 200g Quiex Vinyl - Who's Next
Tfkaudio, like some other folks here, I adjust VTA for every record. It makes a significant difference in my system. If a standard weight LP (120-150gr) sounds good on your system, then the VTA is probably set for that thickness LP. If you don't a...
Contact cleaner - OR - Tuner cleaner
Unlikely to hurt anything, but I'd test for a left-over sonic signature. OTOH, I hear a left-over sonic signature with Caig Deoxit and alway follow it with a good cleaning with 92+% isopropyl alcohol. FWIW, unless the contact is corroded, I find i...

Classic Records 200g Quiex Vinyl - Who's Next
Tfkaudio, I can't relate to what you're describing. The Classic Records reissue sounds very good here. Have you cleaned the LP with a good cleaning fluid like Disc Doctor, RRL or AIVS? Have you adjusted your VTA?.

Zaikesman, enjoyed your post! Thanks for the great read..
Whats on your turntable tonight?
{smile} Great to hear, Joe! Lloyd told me the sound in your listening room at this point is just "killer". We'll have to get over!.
Installing a dedicated AC line
Incus,1) Don't put in a subpanel if you're 10' away from your new breaker box. The situation for a subpanel would be where a long run is required. Then running 6 gauge to the subpanel might help reduce the voltage drop.2) 10ga minimizes the potent...
VPI Scout upgrade path?
Rickcomer, happy to be able to point you to some additional information. Audiogon's search function is pretty weak; it's often difficult to find earlier threads from the archives, so glad I could help..
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Foster, interesting comment on "Teaser." I've always enjoyed the MoFi reissue, notwithstanding its detractors in some quarters. My tan label A&M (Sterling mastering, F7) has always sounded good to my ear, but I found the MoFi bettered it in ov...
VPI Scout upgrade path?
Rickcomer, you might find this earlier thread on the same topic useful reading. Good luck. The VPI Scout is well worth upgrading: each step you take will reward you.http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?eanlg&1134618175.
Personal turntable/cartridge evolution
Hi Chadnliz, thanks for the note. Glad to know you've been able to hear a Walker 'table. Lloyd's phono stage is pretty friggin' amazing, as well.Cheers,
How To Store Record Collection?
IKEA Bonde or Expedit shelves are excellent for record storage. Both come in various sizes..

Walker Audio Proscenium Gold Signature turntable is the end of my turntable journey, too. And the Magic Diamond cartridge is superb. Congratulations, Slipknot1!Prior to the Walker here:VPI 19 MkIII with ET2 tonearm, Grado ReferenceB&0 4002 lin...
Any Walker SST users?
Trelja is exactly correct. I just talked with Lloyd to confirm: he says, as Trelja points out, the silver is in an organic oil suspension (carrier). The oil is not very conductive and will show no conductivity with a multimeter due to the low volt...
