IO Signature/Steelhead/Arc Reference/ and Colibrì? Just a thought on running digital through the Io with volume control... With the volume control option, Jim includes a single switched high level input. So, the design accomodates an additional high level source, whether CD, tuner or other. To acc...
Philadelphia area audio club? Rick, we currently meet roughly every other month in the home of one member or another. While most of us live in the greater Philadelphia area, we have some members living further away. In fact, our next meeting is being hosted by a member in the ...
Wow...what a record For me recently, it has been some Mercury reissues: the Mercury 20th Century Music box set reissued by Speakers Corner, and Stravinsky's Firebird Ballet reissued by Classic Records (45 rpm). Just phenomenal recordings.

Cables for Tenor OTL Rich, if you're willing to consider the cost of the Silversmith cables, I encourage you to try the Omega Mikro Planar IV Silver LCX cables in your system. I use them with my Avalon Eidolons and Atma-Sphere MA-2s and find them to be an excellent ma...
Next Biggest Improvement after Speakers ? In my experience, amplifiers and speakers tend to be synergistic. I'd encourage you to consider your choice of amplifier in association with your speaker selection. That being said, of the systems I've built or worked with, the greatest impact aft...
In Heavy Rotation? Can a classical music listener add to this thread? If so...1. Stravinsky/Firebird/Dorati, Mercury (Classic Records reissue)2. Mendelssohn/Hebrides Overture/Maag, Decca (Speakers Corner reissue)3. Schoenberg/5 Pieces for Orchestra/Dorati, Mercury (...
Avalon Eidolon Diamond Are they really great? I own Eidolons, but I can't comment on the Diamonds. What I will add, though, is an echo of Linkster's comments about associated electronics. I've heard Eidolons with Spectral, Rowland and Atma-Sphere amplifiers. I bought them based on hearing the...
Chesky classical LP's Rcprince has covered it well. I am much more enthusiastic about the Speakers Corner reissues than his comments would suggest -- they are uniformly excellent in my experience. One of the Chesky resissues that truly deserves special attention, if yo...
VTA setting up.....how do I find level? Jbatlanta, Ultimately you need to do the fine tuning of both VTA and tracking force by ear to get it right. The measurements and the guages (whether for vertical tracking angle or vertical tracking force), simply get you directionally correct. The...
The last valve pre amp I'll ever need. If you have an opportunity to listen to the Aesthetix Audio "Saturn" series of tube preamplifiers, I encourage you to do so. In the "Saturn" series, Aesthetix has used many of the design concepts from the "Jupiter" series Callisto linestage and Io...
Classical fans, I need advice Vedric,You have opened the door onto a very large and complex world of music. Congratulations on beginning this exploration! I, and I'm sure others, will be happy to offer you suggestions for some other classical music to explore. But, the range o...
Anyone compare the Lamm L1 ro LL2 to the CJ LS16? Jtinn, I have enjoyed your contributions to these forums. In this case, your shorthand comment struck me as directionally correct but overstated, and, as a result, meriting some clarification. CJ's equipment stopped being "very lush" (in any sense...
Anyone compare the Lamm L1 ro LL2 to the CJ LS16? Come now, Jtinn. You're perfectly correct that these two pieces of equipment come from different sides of the musical equation, but to say the CJ LS 16 is "very lush and tubey" strikes me as an overstatement of the CJ sound aesthetic.
How long should vinyl last? Vinyl can last for a long, long time and still sound great given proper care. My experience matches that of Jependleton and Rshak. I have records that are 20 and more years old, have been played dozens of times, and that still have minimal surface... |
