Looking for dedicated power line advice.
Harry, we didn't use any of the audiophile in-wall wire. We did use a good quality metal clad cable with isolated neutral suitable for hospital installation (green in color, three insulated wires, white/black/green, plus a fourth bare grounding wi...
Atma-sphere MP-1 vs Mark Levinson 32
One thing that is obvious from this is that there still exists no clear means for determining how something is going to sound in your system without trying it yourself.Amen, Ralph..
Looking for dedicated power line advice.
Harry, FWIW, I had a 55' run to make and we pulled all six dedicated lines in a continuous run directly back to the main panel using 10 gauge. Can't say that the technicians were real happy working with the 10 gauge when it came to doing the recep...

Hbrandt,Just one further question for you to ponder: Why the subpanel? By using a subpanel you are inserting another set of electrical connections for everything: positive, neutral and ground. Plus, all of the current for all of your system is bei...
Atma-sphere MP-1 vs Mark Levinson 32
Springbok, in re-reading this, I discover I need to be more succinct. Jonathan's report on his experience does not jive with other comments I've heard. There is no reason I know of that the Callisto would sound less than superb in balanced mode. A...
Atma-sphere MP-1 vs Mark Levinson 32
Opinions vary. What you quote was, obviously, Jonathan's experience. I asked Jim White (the designer of Aesthetix) his opinion on the issue. He told me that results can be system dependent, but in every system he's heard a balanced configuration t...
Point to point wiring.
Point-to-point wiring (1) eliminates the sonic signature of a circuit board (copper embedded in a dialectric or varying quality, teflon being the best but most expensive alternative) and (2) can use higher quality wiring than the copper traces of ...
Beethoven String Quartets: DDD recordings....
The Vegh, particularly for the later quartets, are my favorite. The sound quality is is better for not being DDD. It is beautiful, timbrally correct analog. The LPs have gorgeous sound; I haven't heard the transfer to CD.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
The Sheffield/Leinsdorf/LA LPs are underappreciated. The Prokofiev "Romeo and Juliet" recording on Sheffield LAB 8 is particularly good, imo.

And...??? What did you think after listening to an original vs. this reissue of the Firebird?
OK...I'm getting ready to buy a new Phono pre amp.
Rwd, congratulations on you decision to order the Rhea. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I enjoy the Io; its a beautiful phono stage. The Calyspo will give you another improvement in sound quality, but you may want to live with you new Rhea phon...

Input on RHEA being hard on tubes.
And I have never heard of any problem with the Rhea. I own an Aesthetix Io and have not had a bit of trouble with tubes over the three years I've been using it. The Rhea uses similar topology for the audio circuit and a similar power supply design...
Telarc recordings
Newbee, thanks for clarifying your comment. I totally agree about the golden years of 1956-1965 or so. As the to Decca tree, Wilkinson was involved, but so was Gordon Parry. And Wilkinson also ended up using some additional mikes over the years. S...
