Whats on your turntable tonight?
Spencer - glad you liked the Tarantule; all of the recordings by Paniagua and the Atrium Musicum Madrid are worth acquiring if you enjoy early music. They are all exceptional performances of interesting music superbly recorded. Here are a few to w...

Walker Audio Extreme SST
I asked Lloyd Walker about storing and re-storing SST, and confirmed with him that he was okay with my posting the following...For storage, Lloyd agrees with Trelja's suggestion to wrap electrical tape around the seam of the lid and jar, and to st...
Avalon: are new models quite better than older ?
Luca, as I mentioned at the outset of your thread, I experience no slow or muddy bass on Eidolons here. Here the bass on the Eidolons is extremely tight, well defined and agile. But the Diamonds are better defined still, so perhaps the Radians are...
Anyone using silicone oil for dampening??
Bigkidz, the challenge with silicone is that it migrates everywhere and can create a real mess that can be very difficult to clean completely. If you want to try some damping pads, Loon's suggestion of sorbathane would be a better and safer option...
Low level res more inherent in tubes?
Missing some of the newer lexicon, but still extensive, is the glossery J. Gordon Holt assembled:http://www.stereophile.com//reference/50/index.htmlFor a hardcopy reference, Robert Harley's "Complete Guide to High End Audio" has an extensive audio...
Anybody blow a ceramic woofer with an OTL amp?
I think Springbok is asking about the frequency of occurrence, as in number of events, as opposed to audio spectrum frequency."the frequency is DC"Springbok, sorry to hear that a blown tube took out your driver. It's rare for those Russian 6AS7Gs ...
Anyone using silicone oil for dampening??
Are you asking about dampening for a tonearm? If so, rather than silicone, consider using what Lloyd Walker supplies in the damping tray of his turntable: 50% STP and 50% 0-30w synthetic motor oil (e.g., Mobil 1)..
Who will survive? One last table til I die.
Also if the transformer is eliminated entirely as with tube OTLs..
record storage?
Thanks for sharing the Masonite tip, Ashra. That's how my current shelving works, and it sounds like an easy add to the Expedit. One additional comment on the IKEA Bonde solution: since these come in single width units, they are easy to fit in wher...
Tube Amps
As others comment, allowing for for easy bias adjustment with a built in meter is a good feature. But note that (1) some tube amps use LEDs that go dark when the amp is correctly adjusted (easy to do) rather than a meter (e.g., the Conrad-Johnson ...
record storage?
Thanks, Vvrinc. I'm so used to just pushing my lps against the back of the cabinet to get the spines aligned, I was wondering whether some backing would be needed on the open-back shelves to provide a similar backstop. On the bottom shelf of my ca...
record storage?
Ashra and Vvrinc, the IKEA Expedit shelving looks like a great solution for a large collection. Do you do anything with the backside of the Expedit to block the records from pushing out the rear? I'm thinking of how one would easily even out the s...
record storage?
Herman, it's just using the standard html image tag. The trick is that, since Audiogon doesn't support the html when posting, you have to do it after the initial posting using the "edit my post" feature. When you go back in to edit your post, you ...
record storage?
Lots of people report good success using the IKEA Bonde bookshelf units. These are 15" deep and each shelf is 14" wide so shelf-sagging under the weight of records is not a problem. Also, the width provides appropriately spaced vertical support fo...
