Integrated Tube Amplifier for First Timer?
You know, I'm going to start sounding like a broken record here on these boards, but one of the few truly affordable tube integrated amplifiers that "make the grade" are from Vista Audio. Maybe its that Serbian luv', but these things sound like wh...
Just took delivery of the Red Wine Audio 30.2 and-
David,Thanks for taking the time to share your impressions of the 30.2. I took the original 30 for a spin - it was a decent piece. It sounds like the 30.2 is more of what the 30 was originally hyped up to be.
Totem Forest or Acoustic Zen Adagio
Because I have zero experience with the Adagio's - I am unable to offer an insight as to how these two well received products compare.I am chiming in to note that the Totem Forest retains exceptional off-axis dispersion. As usual, all thats needed...
Reliable tube integrated for $1000
If I were looking for an integrated in that range, I'd dive into the Vista Audio i34 integrated amplifier @ vista-audio.com
Best setup for Totem Arros...
PrimaLuna make's a solid unit. Thats a viable option. The Rega Mira 3 and the Apollo is a flat out horrid match with the Staff / Arro. The Mira 3 doesn't have the cajones to control either speaker, and the Apollo will sound flat and lifeless on bot...
Totem response re: recommended tube amp for Sttaf
DJH,I've got a little experiment for you. Send Totem another e-mail and ask about the Vista Audio i84 integrated amplifier. (a self biasing - push pull EL84 integrated that runs the first 8 watts in class A, with the remaining 7 in class A/B mode)...
Bi-amping mark-Daniel Maximus: Mind-blowing
There's also an article on the M&D Topaz at the Affordable Audio review site.
the smoothest sounding speaker
I will caste in a reference to the ACI Sapphire XL, a speaker that is very similar to Aerial Acoustic's in the top end. They are certainly the type of speakers you can listen to for hours on hours, even on transparent transistor amplifiers.
What's up with the 'Piano' gloss????
As stated above; black is a color that is easiest to integrate into your average household. Growing up, I always associated gloss black with something expensive or of high quality. While that is certainly not a golden rule, I don't believe I am pa...
Which Solid State Amplifier is Making you Happy?
The H2O Signature 150I have to admit; I've always had a thing for a well done class A transistor amp or a good valve unit. While I've also been a big fan of the price/performance ratio class D provides, I've never met one I could live with long te...
The best mini monitors you have heard?
Guess I'm just a po' boy. While I've heard plenty of expensive monitors, I've never had the pleasure of owning anything that retails above the 4k price-point. With that said, when done right - the Totem Tabu certainly tickled my fancy.
Current Production Classic Sounding Tube Amps
To be entirely honest, there have been few tube amplifiers under the 2k price-point that have perked my ears. This includes Rogue. In this range, I've found that a well designed transistor piece can pull off the same tricks with a few of their own...
Not Another NuForce thread......
I want to interject in this thread; The discussion of why a product was dropped from a line-up should never be discussed in the public. In the end - it does no one any good. Unless there are downright criminal things going on that can be backed up ...
Not Another NuForce thread......
Guidocorona,First and foremost, I must confess, I simply do not believe in “giant killers”. I do believe in giants – eg; products that deliver performance previously un-attainable in their price class. More and more often, people are becoming fixa...
Not Another NuForce thread......
When discussing any piece of gear; the question always is, compared to what? Reviews that paint a broad brush (as they so often do) often lead people into this false hope that any piece out there that is just plop and drop short of a miracle. Ever...
