MC phono stage without transformer? Ralph, what's your opinion on Roy Gregory's writings / reviews on "alternative" LP equalizations and the supposed criticality of adjusting this EQ to fit the label? He might be on to something, but I wonder if this compensates for EQ differences or...
MC phono stage without transformer? There is nothing wrong with a transformer, but the Herron phonostage uses a jfet to boost the gain to 66dB. There are plenty of others that don't use transformers.
What Cartridges to use with Triplanar IIV Tonearm? Other tube stages to investigate include the Joule Electra, Herron, Manley, and even the cj.
setting azimuth on VPI turntables The problem with this is that all you have done is level the headshell. It doesn't necessarily mean you have adjusted for the best azimuth. Azimuth is best adjusted by minimizing crosstalk between channels. If the cartridge is perfectly assembled,...

The VPI Rim Drive Mepearson - So what's your point? Besides threadcrapping, why spend so much screen space explaining the obvious? Nobody is going to argue that RTR doesn't usually sound better than lp, but here is a question: I have spent over 30 years purchasing ...
Cartridges for rear of stage orchestral resolution Your equipment should do depth, so I would tend to look at room acoustics. What's between the speakers? How far out from the wall are the speakers placed? Do you use any room treatments?I really don't think the Benz is the issue, that cart should ...
Cartridges for rear of stage orchestral resolution Just out of curiosity, what are your system components and how are your speakers set up? getting the resolution you are looking for may require more than a cartridge upgrade.Case in point - some electronics will blur that detail, as will improper ...
Alphason HR-100S Arm The queing height is adjusted with a tiny (might be .035 - never checked the wrench that closely) hex nut on the side of the plastic platform. The whole cylider can be moved up or down (as well as rotated) once the nut is loosened.I'm at work, but...
JMW 12.5 set up Have you called VPI?
JMW 12.5 set up I don't understand your confusion with the VPI jig. It may be adjustable, but if you follow the directions it will work just fine for the 12.5. Slip the guage over the spindle and adjust the length until the V fits around the arm bearing cup. Put ...
Teres 260 or Galibier Serac? Doug, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you hear an older version of the Verus? I seem to recall that Chris updated the controller (and commented on the updates) since you played with it.
Joule Electra LA150 MkII or Lamm LL2 Deluxe? Mitch, I don't know if I'd get too concerned about the Alps pot in the Joule. From what I remember, the pot varies the resistance to ground, so it doesn't directly see the signal. I'd have to look at my La100 manual, but I seem to remember that Ju...
Do these speakers exist? Take a look at the VMPS RM30. If purchased full boat - outboard crossover and bass amp installed in XO, the sensitivity is 93db with a flat 8 ohm impedance. Retail price is around 8.5K and is heavily discounted. |
