Best caps for updating my VTL 225 mono's ? I would go with the VTL upgrade as I have in the past. If there are other upgrades they will most likely do them at the same time.
Amp for Martin logan CLS Originals Nsgarch, The topic here is the original CLS. I purchased Arici stands direct from Ray Shab before the stands were discontinued and my experience with the original CLS includes time spent with and without the stands. Associated equipment included A...
Amp for Martin logan CLS Originals The first thing you need to understand is the original CLS is a completely different animal than the CLSII and IIz. I ran the original CLS with 60 watt tube monos and they played loud enough that snare drum wacks would make you jump. They also pro...
Pioneer House Sound from the 70s You can't get there from here. Of the '70s Pioneer receivers the SX-1010 was my favorite and matched with a pair of Pioneer's top of the line speakers like CS-99s the sound is quite remarkable. I can't think of anything made today that would dupli...
Amp for Martin logan CLS Originals I have tried a wide variety of solid state amplifiers with the original CLS and none of them came close to the performance of tubes. 100 watt tube monos are ideal. I had great success with Quicksilver, VTL and Audio Research.
Best way to get accurate rake angle on speakers I have mentioned using a laser in a previous post. I use a drafting "T" with the short end against the back of the speaker while the long end is pointed toward the listening position. Align the "T" midway between the tweeter and woofer, set the la...
Quicksilver V4 or Silver 88 advice needed..... You are right, Modjeski is the only other person I would buy tubes from. In fact I will be ordering tubes from him very soon, but if it is for a Quicksilver amp I buy from Mike. I was recently inquiring about Genelex reissues and both Mike Sanders...
VPI bearing oil/grease? If Mobil 1 is good enough for my BMW it should be good enough for your turntable.
Lively and Dynamic SS Preamp... It would be nice to know what tube preamp you are replacing. Wouldn't the matching Pass preamp be the logical choice? If your budget does not allow the purchase of a proper preamp maybe a different amplifier should be considered. Maybe you need mo...
The CD player is dead....... Elizabeth makes some good points and one of them is resale value.I'm sticking with CDs because I would rather have thousands of dollars invested in CDs than thousands of dollars invested in nothing. A lot of folks might argue they only like one so...
Quicksilver V4 or Silver 88 advice needed..... Mike Sanders is great at sorting tubes and his prices are reasonable. I would go with whatever he recommends. I have had fantastic performance with his selected KT88s regardless of brand.
Which Pre-amp. match with Krell KSA 200S Pow. Amp? The Quicksilver full function preamp has an extremely low output impedance and seems to work well with just about any amp. If you want a tube preamp the Quicksilver is a pretty safe bet.
Which Pre-amp. match with Krell KSA 200S Pow. Amp? KSP-7B or KRC. I have never heard Krell amps sound brite. Match your amp and preamp and you will eliminate a lot of problems.
Quicksilver V4 or Silver 88 advice needed..... I agree with John. Adding a Vandersteen 2W does amazing things to the sound and I don't mean just in the bass. It opens up the 2Ce like you wouldn't believe and makes your amp sound like it has twice as much power. If you ask Sanders he will tell ...
8 gauge vs 10 gauge OF speaker cable I disagree with the previous posts regarding the gauge not having an affect on sound quality. In my experience larger wire has a much warmer sound than thin wire. |
