Speaker separation versus listening distance?? What are your speakers? Some speakers have different requirements than others. Vandersteens don't like side walls. Maggies don't mind side walls. Tall speakers like Dunlavys need a little more distance from the listener to integrate the drivers.
Is Speaker Termination Required? All connectors have a sound character. Bare wire sounds the best.
The CD Player Lie? The more expensive equipment is expected to sound better and therefore is listened to with a more discriminating ear. The opposite is true of inexpensive equipment. We are surprised it sounds so good in the first place. We relax and enjoy the musi...
Best Amp to drive my Apogee Stages? The Stage actually goes below 4 ohms and while this may not be a problem for your monster tube amplifiers it can be a problem for other amps. However, the point I was trying to make is that an amplifier's sound quality will vary depending on the l...
Dynamic Headroom Different philosophies by different designers I guess. One designer claims to have something and the other designer claims it doesn't exist.
What next, after finalising components ? Wilfredt, Sorry for the late response to your question. Yes, the half round ASC Tube Traps are placed vertically and side by side with no gaps in between. ASC Tube Traps are not cheap, but they are the best when it comes to room treatment.
Have any VAC owners tried any KT-88's The "Winged C" is a 6550 which may not meet the KT88 requiremnets. Only the earliest 6550 could replace KT88. The VAC tubes were Chinese.
Best Amp to drive my Apogee Stages? The amount of watts is not the issue. It is the load the amplifier has to deal with. True, a higher quality amplifier will sound better, but the Apogee is a hard speaker to drive and it is the load that degrades the sound of the amplifier.
Dynamic Headroom Atmasphere, Your statement is simply not true. The class of operation has nothing to do with headroom. Headroom is the amplifiers ability to perform beyond it's rated power for a short amount of time, like during a dynamic peak in music. Class A o...
Why power cable effect overall syste sound? Mnnc, I'm glad to hear you found something that improved your system without spending an arm and a leg. Happy listening.
Bass Suckout in a Square Room - Remedies and Solut R-19 insulation is frequency selective. If you are going to treat your room use room treatment products. I have used Tube Trap products for about 20 years. I know they work.
Why power cable effect overall syste sound? Bob_bundus, Apparently you have not been paying attention. This has nothing to do with being a "Doubting Thomas". Even though this is a debate, it can still be an enjoyable debate without rude comments. I have noticed the rude comments are coming ...
Pre and power amp for Vandersteen 3A Signature? I hope I'm not coming in too late here.Richard Vandersteen used Audio Research at the shows more often than not and horizontal bi-amping was a common method using smaller amps. Horizontal bi-amping gives a very big relaxed sound.Audio Research is ...
anyone gotten a scratch on component and gone mad I don't expect nicks, scratches or dings on used equipment. Infact I am surprised at how many late model pieces of equipment I see rated 7/10.
Have any VAC owners tried any KT-88's I believe the Shuguang tubes are made on the old Genelex manufacturing equipment. I have found them to be excellent sounding if they are selected and matched properly. |
