Vandersteen 7 Flagship at CES All Vandy do a lot real well. The Vandy's all share a sound pallet that just sounds RIGHT. This goes up and down the product range to the Signature 5a. I haven't heard the sevens. My Quatro Signature II Woods sure sound a LOT better than Wilson Sas...
Denon 103r ???? When a stylus can't track the groove due to the shape, it is creating distortion. No way around it. A ROUND stylus won't FIT a high frequency record groove. It creates it's own sound at that point. It's a round peg in a square hole thing. A SMALL ...
Denon 103r ???? "This is nonsense. There's no reason one cannot get linear sound and an extended top end from a properly set-up 103R, installed in a tonearm well-matched to its dynamic requirements."No, even a well set-up 103R is soft on top. A conical stylus can...
What MC for $1,000-$2,000? I'm with what my AC-2 does on my SME III, it kicks butt on Quatro Wood signature II's!. And probably with a 50-50 set-up, even.Sure, a pefect set-up is nice, but then again, why on earth do we listen to records with the turntable in the same darn ...
What MC for $1,000-$2,000? Constraint is relative. To go with a heavy arm just puts the constraints somewhere else, and my wallet, too, as I'd have to buy two components verses one.I listened to a well broken-in 103R on a heavy arm, and it was better, but it still had a mor...
What MC for $1,000-$2,000? I all ready had added mass with the 103R (black top plate on the tonearm head). It didn't even touch the sound quality issue I hear with it. Yes, the bass got tighter, ut the mids on up are just not what the Quatros are capable of.There are no sup...
Denon 103r ???? Well, I never could get the 103R to get to really good on my Quatros. Over time, and several records, it always tended to sound slightly closed-in on the midrange and blurry. I switched out to the Accuphase AC-2 I had, and it was WAY better on def...
What MC for $1,000-$2,000? Well here are my thought so far;1.0 The change from the 103R to the AC-2 in the same table is night and day in clarity. The SAME set-up on both. I'd be hard pressed to say that the T.table and tonearm is the "major" culprit. Minor, yes, major, no....
Denon 103r ???? Adjust your VTA to a lower setting (drop the back of the tone arm down) removes the bright edgy sound from the DL103R sound. With the tome arm too high, you get a bright and thin strident sound with no bass definition at all. Imaging is poor, too....
ARISTON RDIIS and SME series III + DENON SA? Well, the AC-2 always seemed a little more bright and the than the Denon 103D I used to have. More like a moving magnet sound than moving coil. I'm still not sure what to think over the 103D verses the 103R or 103SA, though. Some the 103D some the...
Quatro Wood Impressions. I actually auditioned the sock version and was 100% impressed. I own my products for YEARS so I went to the slightly better looking, or a lot if you really like wood, wood version. The mahogany and black grill cloths blend into a room seamlessly a...
Quatro Wood Impressions. After room EQ, I have my Quatro's going to 20Hz very well. The bass is indeed as good as I have read elsewhere. It is AMAZINGLY deep and effortless. Never fat (unless you make it that way on purpose) when you set them up right and super smooth. I ...
B&W vs Vandersteen? I had a pair of 801's and just moved to Quatros. Could not be happier with the added soundstage that the Quatro's provide. The 802' did not sound neutral in the base, too fat, like my old 801's. 802's were plenty listenable, but after I listened t...
Quatro Wood Impressions. Yes, I stand corrected, they are signature II models. I guess I'm over anxious for upgrades? One last thing, I seem to find that these sound the best pointed straight ahead (no toe-in). Whan I toe them in, I lose the front to back it seems, but the...
Quatro Wood Impressions. This tweeter is a ceramic dome unit with the resonance out to 40KHz, so it doesn't "ring" like most hard domes in the audible band. "The driver in the center of the picture is the 1-inch ceramic coated, alloy-dome tweeter. It is a dualchamber,tran... |
