ALON V Mk II what did you replace them with?
Thanks mitch2.  That is exactly the sort of response I wanted to hear (hopefully I can get a couple more people's experience).  I am driving mine with Simaudio W-5 which some people think sounds a little more tube like.  I will check out some info...
Will it work? Copland preamp and Moon I-5 Int Amp
Jeff, Sfar,Thanks for the input. To summarize your opinions are that the I-5 pre-amp section will sound very similar to using the Copeland pre-amp in its place, correct? Or in other words the I-5 pre-amp stage is just as good as the Copeland.Sfar,...
Will it work? Copland preamp and Moon I-5 Int Amp
Good input so far thanks. I agree that using the Copeland to drive the I-5 would be an odd choice. Long term I would add a SimAudio power amplifier, however money is still a limiter so one thing at a time. I am hoping that I would hear an overall ...
Can we objectively rate speaker cables?
06-25-09: Gregm wrote Thanks for the refs... However, why don;t you give a brief approximation of what yr system sounds like with these wires? It would be interesting.Gregm, I did describe the sound of my system with the new cables in the threads ...
Can we objectively rate speaker cables?
Dave_b stated. The product placement part of your post was probably not the best way to end your sincere counterpoints...it kinda blows your 'Cred a little? Maybe not...I'll check out your stuff for fun if I can assuming you market them on the web....
Can we objectively rate speaker cables?
06-24-09: Dave_bRova and Jadem6, despite my love of Spongebob and a good laugh once in a while (even a not so good laugh), my experience with cabling has been vast and with a ton of varying gear. That said, I hesitate to pontificate because I know...
Can we objectively rate speaker cables?
Hi Jenny,As you said in one of your posts, the ideas in your original post were not exactly discussed as much as other things, so I thought I would take a stab at it and throw out some ideas for thought. Here are my suggestions for some scales that...
Can we objectively rate speaker cables?
06-18-09: SidsspNo, you cannot rate speaker cable this way. Speaker cable has no "sound" of its own. A speaker cable can "sound" warm and slow in one system but detailed and open in another. Amp, speaker cable, and speaker must be viewed as a whol...
Can we objectively rate speaker cables?
Hi Jenny,I like your idea, but I think someone will have to put a lot of discriptive text in place to make everything clear. For example what does "warm" mean? Does everyone view that the same way?Another example of how confusing subjective observa...
diy speaker cables

The Zero-va Interconnect a DIY project
In light of the discussion on using cotton rope as a core material (re. true dielectric constant) I would now recommend using 1/4" polypropylene rope. I used a larger diameter polypropylene rope for the Zero-va speaker cable design. I think cotton...
The Zero-va Interconnect a DIY project
Hi Mumbles,If you are suggesting using another wire, other than CAT 5e Plenum cable wire, that is already straight then that sounds like a good idea. Of course it would have to be reasonably good quality copper and would also have to have FEP insu...
The Zero-va Interconnect a DIY project
Interesting Chris....!Who can you trust? I'm sure the same caveat would apply to many different materials. According to the site you linked cotton should be terrible for audio cables. Yet, several high end cables do use cotton. All I can say is tha...
The Zero-va Interconnect a DIY project
Hi Mumbles,Do you mean wire from another source other than CAT 5e Plenum, or do you mean don't wind the wire in a helix pattern? For the interconnect I thought smaller and minimal material was better. For other projects, like the speaker cables, I ...
Interconnect Inductance vs. Capacitance
I think in the end the best approach is to design for minimum capacitance AND minimum inductance (as well as minimum resistance). That is the approach I took when designing my interconnect cables. http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?fcabl&...
