Searching for a new CD player
I second the ERC-4 recommendation, very good CDP. Sounds even better as a transport via AES cable to outboard DAC.
Do we really need anything greater than 24/96? Opinions?
I have the SHM SACD version of Aja. Can  barely stand to listen it, actually I can’t stand to listen to it. Atrocious sound putting it mildly. My CD version or vinyl versions sound demonstrably better. Based on this one experience I would never pu...
OPPO-BDP103 vs. CD Transport
Don't know anything about your Denon AVR, but I will add this. I owned the Oppo 103 previously and currently have the 203 which does have a better DAC onboard vs the 103. However my Emotiva ERC-4 clearly outperforms the 203 regardless if either ar...
Suggestions for New CD Player
I'll second the suggestion for the Emotiva ERC-4 and with an external DAC connected via the AES output even much better still.
Inexpensive CD Transport...
Couple of considerations, the Emotiva ERC-4 using its AES outputs, the NuPrime CDT-8. As stated in another thread I wouldn't consider a transport if it didn't have AES due to what I perceive to be superior connection and digital transfer method. B...
Looking for a CD player
Couple other thoughts on this. I also use an Emotive ERC-4 cd player but normally use its AES/EBU outputs with appropriate 110 ohm cable using XLR connectors to great effect into my Holo Spring DAC. Effectively this outperforms by a substantial ma...
CD or DVD player to use as a transport
I use an Emotiva ERC-4 CDP @ $600 new and it is noticeably much better than my Oppo 203 regardless of whether I use the built In DACs of each device or connect to an external DAC. However the best performance by far comes with the use of an AES ca...
Thinking about getting a R2R DAC
I've been reading through all of the post on this subject. Thanks.Like many I also have an R2R DAC, the Holo Spring Level 1, but also have at my disposal other DS DAC's. CD Player has an Analog Devices chip, and Burr Brown on HT processor. They al...
Considering getting a CD player (again). Used? New? Criteria?
As a few others have suggested get the Emotiva ERC-4 it fits your budget, performs way above its price point in terms of audio quality. Sounds much better than my Oppo 203 but will add IMO to get the most from this player it should be used with th...
Denafrips Pontus vs LKS vs Gustard
Since I was the OP on this I will respond and concur apparently no one has compared these DAC's. However I am happy with the Holo Spring and for now find it unlikely I would ever return to using a Sigma Delta DAC vs any of the R2R Ladder DAC's. Pe...
Doug Schroeder Method, Double ic
@ douglas_schroederInteresting regarding your use with the Hosa XLR's. It surprises me given they apparently use high purity copper and the actual connectors look like Neutrik brand. Oh well bad call on my part. The cost really starts ramping up w...
Doug Schroeder Method, Double ic
Hi Doug,Well the DIY approach is certainly one option but you have obviously proven other ways too. Using the approach I previously described the only real difference (that I can think of) from an engineering and scientific stand point is the two ...
Doug Schroeder Method, Double ic
Very interesting experiment you have going on here Doug. Read through most but not all of this thread as well as the original article posted on Dagogo. Bob Smith's response also made much sense although to have a complete understanding of all he h...
Denafrips Pontus vs LKS vs Gustard
I don't use either HQ Player or Roon and am on a Mac so it doesn't do do native DSD in the first place. So I guess I can't help you with this. The Intona IS different, talk with Tim Connor at Kitsune he is very convincing and again has the measure...
Denafrips Pontus vs LKS vs Gustard
No I have not, but I can say this. With my XMC-1 I tried the Intona both with and without the Singxer in the loop, I much preferred the Intona alone vs with the Singxer. Tim Connor at Kitsune also stated the Intona had, or has considerably more ef...
