Zu Soul Superfly
Gopher, As you well know, I follow your Pass/FirstWatt experiences closely. Can you say more about the differences the Alephs are making? And which model are they a clone of? Any things that the F1 & F1J had that are missing with the Alephs?
Wyred 4 Sound Dac1 vs. Dac2
2bgeorge's response was not entirely accurate. The w4s DAC1 can play high res files, but the USB, and USB only, is limited to 24/96 (and is not asynchronous USB interface, which the DAC2 has).
Resolution Audio - Cantata
I believe I saw some impressions of it on the Computer Audiophile site.

An S-30 here really caught my attention too. Incredible amps. And always nice to see Ralph from Atamasphere on these boards. Had the pleasure of meeting him in the Twin Cities. I hope to have an S-30 someday.

Gopher, I see that the Dynaco and the F1J are both up for sale. What did you end up settling on for your Superflys?
balanced connection, better than single ended?
Atmasphere, Are there any cases in which you would recommend an RCA to balanced conversion to convert single-ended outputs to balanced inputs? Only to run long balanced cables? For differential amps?
Van Alstine or Bryston for me?
AVA and Salk were a great sounding pairing at AKFest. Have you inquired with Jim Salk about what might pair best or the differences you might hear between the 2 options you are considering?
Small DAC With Balanced Outs
If USB is an option and you only need the DAC to have one input, then I'd go for the HRT Pro. Fabulous sound, balanced output, powered by USB, so even less cable/plug hassle. Check out the 6moons review. Although it is worth noting that the Pro wa...
Next Wilco Album
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot remains their masterpiece in my book. And yes the documentary about its making is fabulous.
Small DAC With Balanced Outs
Hmm, I am guessing that you wouldn't only be using USB output, but if you are, check out the HRT Streamer Pro. It uses mini-XLR plugs so you'd need adaptors or cables with mini-XLR on one end. Also on the small end of things would be DACs intended...
Neophyte question about DAC's...
You could also try something like the HRT Streamer II. Music Direct offers these and has a 30 day return policy, so if it doesn't make a difference, not a prob...
$4000 to Spend on Amp, Preamp and USB DAC
Congrats on your purchases. Look forward to hearing your impressions of the equipment you settled on. If the Emotiva don't end up working out, you've got a lot of options at the price you paid for the Emotivas.
$4000 to Spend on Amp, Preamp and USB DAC
6moons review of W4S DAC2 liked the W4S much better than the Peachtree's DAC. If you are playing out of a computer primarily, I'd be sure that you go for an option that has an excellent USB or Firewire implementation. At $1500 the Wyred would cert...
iMac audio issues
Jazzybs,That's odd that Leopard doesn't see the HRT via a powered hub for you. That is not the case with any of the various HRTs I have had the opportunity to try out: the II, II+ and the Pro.
Filling out the sound
You might also want to consider adding a tube buffer to the chain. It could hopefully be placed in a less visual location to preserve the look of your system and might give some of the fullness you are looking for. The Dodd tube buffer gets a lot ...
