Rogue Owners Unite Who did you hear back from at Rogue? Mark O'Brian often replies to the e-mails sent to them, but he may be at the NYC Audio Show. Might be worth a follow-up e-mail, or a phone call to Rogue (after the NYC show is over).
Zyx vs. Van Den Hul Hmm, I would be a little worried about a ZYX on a low mass arm, but I am not sure how the silicon damping would affect these calculations. I use it with the highest effective mass armwand available for my Moerch tonearm. Worth checking with Mehran...
Zyx vs. Van Den Hul Agree that Mehran at Sorasound is great to work with. He also often has ZYX carts from folks who have traded up. And he has these inspected by ZYX before reselling them, so you can buy with confidence.
Zyx vs. Van Den Hul I would not draw conclusions about ZYX based on experience with Monster carts. And if the compliances are quite different, then you need to think about Cart-tonearm matching. What tonearm are you using?
Rogue Owners Unite Well I only heard the Acoustic Zens in a show setting, but they were great sounding with the tube amps they were paired with. I would try a tube amp first based on that experience. Rogue tube amps have great bass in my experience. And local Rogue ...
David Bromberg -- Any fans? A good friend is a close friend of David Bromberg, but thus far I have only met his wife and haven't been able to see him live (the ticket prices for his recent Chicago show were really high).
Tube based surround sound amp??? Yeah, Butler 5150 was my first thought too, until I saw the budget. Thus, my first post above...
Rogue Owners Unite I heard the Sphinx in an audio shop here in Chicago. And it sounded great. A very impressive unit for the price. Though, that said, I loved the sound of the Acoustic Zens I heard at Axpona with the tube amps they were paired with. I personally wou...
Tube based surround sound amp??? Tube based surround sound integrateds aren't anything I have come across. And even a tube amp for 90 dB efficient speakers for under $1000 is going to be a tough price point to hit.
China's Emotiva buying the Bob Carver LLC? Emotiva has said that the Carver amps will be built in TN. Their SS amps are built to a price point that is likely not possible if they were built in the U.S.
Amplifier's age Yes, have a piece of vintage gear checked out by a technician you trust.
Subtantial improvement over Emotiva XPA-1's? Love my Rogue Stereo 90 with KT120s. It is back at Rogue now getting updated to Super Magnum status.
Pilinius 9200 or Musical Fidelity A5 ? Don't have experience with either, but remember that 50 Watts isn't going to be a huge difference here. Since a doubling of power gives only a 3dB increase in volume (dBs are a logarithmic scale).
I heard Emotive bought Bob Carvers tube company 1) We shouldn't be dismissing gear just because it is built in China. There is some excellent gear being made in China these days. True, there is also some poor quality audio gear being made there too. All a matter of quality control and quality d...
price point to move to separates vs integrated As the posters above indicated, there are a number of excellent integrateds out there at a number of price points. For me the advantages of separates are twofold:1) They allow you greater flexibility in tweaking the sound of your system. Now this ... |
