If you love the Ortofon 2M Black, you'll really love...... (help me upgrade)
+1 for SoundsmithI have two and each one is unique and satisfying. There are a couple of on-line retailers selling the current models for as much as half off. That's a real deal IMO.Rollin
Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open.
Roger, thanks for your time. Some of the technical talk on this thread is way over my head so I’ll have to bone up on my tube electronics, which I learned over 50 years ago in college, then became a computer jock so I forgot about them until recent...
Speakers for a small room
My room is dedicated to listening. It’s large enough for the equipment, record storage, a small computer and desk (which is used for digitizing and storage) and a chair. The walls are decorated with nothing but acoustic foam. I don’t need a sub wi...
Speakers for a small room
I have a room that is 10'6" X 10' X 8'. I searched, tried and tweaked, but my ATC SCM19s sound terrific in that small space. I listen near field so bass reverb is minimized. They articulate very well with my Prima Luna Dialogue Premium HP power am...
Anybody have experience with Vinyl Me Pllease or is that on the for pay forum?
@addyson815You're right. I thought of that after I posted. I wanted to make sure I wasn't just overreacting before I do quit. I felt like giving them a chance so I could have a larger sample size.@sbank1That's great advise for someone who has a CD...
Clean Power without the drawbacks of Conditioning Filtering. Advice?
You can buy excellent power cables and a power strip from Shunyata. The PS-8 or PS-12 are the strips and they have good cables. You can add noise reduction without conditioning if you wish as well.Rollin
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
All equipment selections and tweaks aside, I haven't noticed anyone suggesting that you try a better method of cleaning your vinyl. I noticed a significant improvement in the timbre once I used a US machine to clean my records.Rollin
Any good reasons to use transistor phono stage and line level preamp instead of tube ?
I find transistor phono stages sound "harder" than the tube pre-amps. I've had both and I keep going back to tube.Rollin
What separate tube phono stage do you use ?
+1 on BAT. I love my VK-P6SE. Check it out at Upscale Audio.Rollin
Speakers positionning
I've always toed my speakers in. By doing so at such an angle moves the sound stage up front and center creating a sweet spot in front of the listener, like in a true live setting. A pro audio guy recommended it to me as an enhancement to the micr...
What is the most memorable concert that you had attended so far?

Best MM?
You cannot go wrong with the Zephyr. I have a few Sound-Smith products (not the Zephyr) and IMO they have the most natural sound and are a terrific value. I have an Ortophon 2M Black and I don’t use it (probably will sell it), it sounds too "hard"...
Best bookshelf speakers
I can vouch for the Elac Uni-Fi-Ub5. I tried them out last year and found them very pleasing in every sense, especially the price. I've moved on and will be lising them attractively. Highly recommended.
The 70’s are back
I still listen to my L100s bought in 1976 for $800. They’ve been re-coned and I upgraded the crossover for a big improvement. I even replaced the foam grills that my 35 yo son ripped up when he was a toddler. Original Burnt Orange.Rollin
Best vintage DD turntables from the 70's and 80's?
I bought my Denon DP-60L in 1984, a direct drive, automatic turntable. It had a Grace F-9e and sounded fantactic. It still does. The only change is I have a Sound-Smith Ruby OCL replacement stylus in the Grace and higher quality ICs to the pre. It...
