Help - Need Audiophile advice on small systems
Audiophile sound + mini systen size = Musical Fidelity X-150 + X-ray. (See page 44 of the November Stereophile.) For small speakers: Gallo Nucleus Solo. There you have it: Small, simple, within budget, and sounds good. Problem solved (for a Stereo...
Need help with speaker selection
I would think you would want to stay with a Dynaudio product in order to have the best sound match with the surrounds. If that isn't an issue, a pair of Reference 3a MM De Capo-i might work well for you. Definitely not forward sounding and nicely ...
Need speakers - Yamaha CR 840
I've set up a small office system for my wife using a Yamaha A760II integrated amp we had laying around. I didn't want to spend big bucks for what is essentially a background music system. I ended up buying a pair of Definitive Technology Studio 3...
Now I Really Need a Power Conditioner? ?
I would like to very strongly agree with those who are suggesting a propane powered generator. It is going to save you a LOT or hassle in regard to storing a sufficient quantity of fuel. (And you have to store enough, because the gas station isn't...
What budget preamp for my Monarchy SM70PRO amp?
I see you haven't had any responses, so I thought I would give you a reply. I thnik the problem here is your budget. I did a quick search here on Audiogon and really didn't see anything that I could recommend at $250 or less. The Monarchy is a goo...
EL34 tube recommendations
Go to www.audioasylum.com and look in the tube asylum. Do a search for EL34 and you will find much more information that you want. This has really been discussed to death. For current production tubes the favorites seem to be JJ and Svetlana. Like...
Svetlana KT88 "C" logo vs. "S" logo brands?
Try doing a search in the tube asylum over at audioasylum.com. I believe you will find the answer there.
redgum audio rghd headphone amplifier
I can't answer your question, because I have no experience with the the Redgum. However, if you are looking for a solid state headphone amp, you should add the Sugden Headmaster to your list. Also, you might check HeadFi and Headwize for opinions ...
Rogue 66 or Quicksilver
No one can answer that question for you. It depends upon your taste, your room, and your other equipment. I think they are both good pieces of equipment, each having its own sound. I personally prefer the Quicksilver (which I think has a warmer, m...
Upgrade Accuphase DP75v to Linn CD12 ?
Since no one else has replied (yet), I'll give you my two cents worth. First, a disclaimer: I haven't owned either of these products--but I have heard both of them. Also, I don't know how much money you would realize from selling the Accuphase, or...
Best Tubes for Audible Illusions 3 Pre-Amp
I would direct you to the AI website where the designer/manufacturer addresses this question. I would also suggest "Joe's Tube lore" over on Audioasylum. I've used both an M3 and a L1 for over 5 years and have tried many tubes. Due to reliability ...
The best way to isolate my subs from the floor?
I have seen Vibrapods recommended several times for use under speakers. They are about $6.00 each and are available from several sources. They would be the least expensive option posted so far, won't harm anything, can be easily removed if you don...
Pre-Amp decision from a Newbie - Need Help
Given your budget and the other equipment you have, I would suggest that you consider an Odyssey Audio Tempest preamp.
Best 12AX7 for phono preamp
Go to the "tubes" section at audioasylum.com. Do a search for "12ax7". You'll get more opinions than you probably want. This has really been discussed to death. Good luck.
Proac 2.5 or 3.8?
Given your room size the 3.8s would be a better match--although if you really listen at "moderate levels" the 2.5s would also work. Overall, I think the 3.8 is a more refined speaker and works well with a broader range of music. The 2.5s work best...
