Will 12 inch subwoofer be enough for an 18x20 room (with 10 ft cielings)
My living room is an open floor plan like yours with a 2 story cathedral ceiling. I have an older SVS 2039pc+ (12” driver with 500w amp) that produces plenty of earth shattering low bass. I use a Dspeaker Antimode 8033c to tame the peaks and take ...
I am indecisive about choice due to room size
The Charney Audio Maestro would be a perfect fit for your room. Charney designed the Maestro specifically for smaller rooms. I happened to be at Charney yesterday we listened to the Maestro with Lii Fast8 drivers ($2800.00) in his 14x19x9 room. Al...
What's your favorite boutique speaker maker
I have owned 3 different pairs of Omegas, Compact Hemp w/dual Deep Hemp Subs, Super 6 Monitors w/Deep Hemp subs, and XRS 8 Alnico w/Deep Hemp subs. As I moved up the line Louis had a trade up policy and was awesome to work with. I sold the XRS/Dee...

Best 300B tube
I replaced Genelex PX300b's with JJ 300b's in my system. I have Charney Audio Companion Horns with Omega RS7 drivers. The Omega's are a little on the dark side and the hardness of the JJ mates well with them. A while back I went to Charney Audio t...
Replacement of Cary CD player
I’m using my Sparkler Audio s503 as a player and transport with fantastic results. You can buy the s593 as a transport for a little less money but the extra for the Dac is well worth it. https://www.vkmusic.ca/Sparkler%20Audio%20S507.htmhttp://www...
Some amps I never heard of...
I had one of the Crown XLS1500 amps. Good inexpensive sound for HT and pro use. To me it was unrefined on the high end and noisy in my 2 channel rig. I have had a number digital amps in my system and can highly recommend the Digital Amplifier Comp...
Your most indispensable "tweak"?
A pair of Bose Noise Canceling 700 headphones for my wife! My listening room is too close to our living room and there was always the TV vs Stereo sound level battle. I lost the battle but won the war! Best $400.00 I ever spent on audio!!
Absorb or Diffuse Behind Listening Position?
Here is a room calculator to find where your first reflection points are and the size of absorption panels you’ll need. Just punch in your measurements in inches, feet or meters. https://www.acoustic.ua/forms/calculator4.en.html
I bought another Class D amp and didn't get what I paid for!
Not audio related but a "What would you do" story. About 15 years ago I was pulling into a tight parking spot with a friends pick up. I usually drive a minivan and the truck handles differently. I bumped a Toyota Corolla in the process a small but...
Can a solid state integrated amp pair well with Focal 1038Be?
Some of the Class A amps mentioned are very good I had the ATC SIA2 for a while and it is a very good amp. Depending on the amount of inputs you need look into the Digital Amplifier Companies (DAC) offerings. I'm currently using the 2 Cherry with ...
Upgrade to floor standing.
If you can find them older used Snell floorstanders are a great way to go. The A,B,C,and D series are well within your budget. I had the C IV and CV for a while and sold them to a friend who still listens to them. Good luck
Need advice! Do I upgrade DAC or buy a new player?
For a CD player look into the Sparkler Audio s503 ($1600) I have one and the NOS Dac sounds fantastic! I use it now as a transport and it rivals some of the best I’ve had! Been around this hobby for a loooong time and have had a lot of gear but th...
