under $300 bookshelfs: does excitement exist?
Monitor Audio Bronze B2 can be had for $300.00 new. Very nice full sounding monitors with a wide dynamic range and high quality components. Basic cabinets keep the price down but the electronics are top notch inside.
Speaker spikes-worse sound-what gives?
Same worse bass response with spikes on base of 30" metal stands with two way monitors. Low cut pile carpet over a hard floor. Lost the deep bass with spikes attached. Sounded best with them removed and metal bases sunk into the carpet worked just...
Any potential harm in using adhesive CDR labels?
Yes. If you clean your CD's, any moisture removes the sticky labels which will flake off inside of your CD player. As with any glue/adhesive, over time it dries out and if there is paper attached it will come loose as well. Also, the paper will dr...
Isopropyl alcohol and CD crazing?
Hi: I spoke to the Mapleshade Records owner recently and we spoke at length about this subject. He sells their CD treatment called "Optrix" for enhancing sound on the CD surface. He mentioned that they clean a CD with lukewarm tap water, mild dish...
Recommend upgrade for NAD C541
To really upgrade your CD player as it is a really nice 24/96 set up with the trademark NAD power output section, a tube amplified AMC CD player probably would give more open, natural and more musical results as the whole CD format is digital, not...
Need help choosing new speakers
Harbeth Compact 7 ES. Under $2000.00 new/with metal stands on Audiogon.
help with budget, low power speaker selection
Try the new Monitor Audio Bronze B2 loudspeakers. Absolute Sound gave them a 5 star rating, and at $399.00 a pair MSRP they were a speaker that should be in the $1000.00 range. Come in beech or in black finish. Same sound as upper Silver or Gold s...
Why does this circa '75 receiver sound so good?
Hi: I have experienced similar results. I bought a Yamaha CR220 15 watt/channel receiver new in 1980 with a pair of Bang and Olufsen Beovox S35 speakers. The combo sounded clear and very accurate then vs other choices (Pioneer, Technics, B&O B...

Old Classic Receivers: A Mistake to Buy?
The Yamaha CR220 Natural Sound receiver from 1979 has been my stereo system's main power source since 1980 when it was purchased new with a pair of Bang and Olufsen Beovox S35 loudspeakers. Early in 2000 on a whim, I purchased a new NAD C520 CD pl...
Blue Circle Audio BC86 MKII Noisehound feedback
Hi: A follow up report on the BC86 MKII Noisehound. I hooked it up onto a power strip with my receiver, CD player and and my cassette deck. Honestly, I could not tell the difference either at low volumes, at high volume, or by listening to the "wh...
Amplifiers either work or they don't work. But
Some amplifiers, like mine, namely my 22 year old vintage Yamaha CR220 Natural Sound receiver seems to have "off days" when it sounds either tired or distorted at higher volumes when playing CD's on my NAD C520 CD player. On other occasions, espec...
Blue Circle Audio BC86 MKII Noisehound feedback
Hi: Ordered one Noisehound this weekend from a Audiogon seller in Canada for $110 shipped. Will give it a go this week and try to get back to you after I try it out. I am intending to plug in into a Wireworld Electrifier 6 outlet power strip that ...
