Experiences on Tom Evans phono stage ? I am using a Dynavestor XV1-S. The upgrade certainly gives more detail and I wouldn't worry about making old/poor recordings sound worse. What seems to happen is that it gets more information off of the record, particualrly effective is retrieval ...
Experiences on Tom Evans phono stage ? Hi Nolitan, I am in the UK and the upgrade cost me a total of about 800 GB pounds say $1300. There were two things that Tom did:1) upgrade to SRX - this is the thing to go for, less noise and even more detail/music2) I had the dip switches fitted ...
Experiences on Tom Evans phono stage ? I have a TE Groove Plus and had it modded to SRX. I can't really fault it and it is happily driving a BENT Audio TVC controller. I agree with Stltrains - it is very quiet and is able to create a really engaging musical experience.
Atma-Sphere S-30 MK3 I have the S30 mk3 OTL amp with the upgrade vcap and resistors. The break-in period for me lasted only a couple of days. I loaned the amp from a dealer and for the first day it really didn't gel and I was very close to handing it back. However, da...
Power Cord for PS Audio Power Plant Premier? I have a PPP and have been using stock power cords. I'm not particularly knowledgeable or interested in power cords but willing to take advice from others. I was looking at the Kimber Palladium power cord but I've now seen a glowing review of the ...
Change to Horns or stay Dynamic I switched from dynamic speakers to Avantgarde Duo Omega horns. These are obviously not full range horns but the midrange clarity, detail and imaging are fantastic. I also feel that the bass is very good and well integrated so long as the level is...
Dynavector XV-1s set up Mine is also now tracking at 1.9g on SME V with about 1 on the anti-skate. Loading at 100 ohm. I have been experimenting with VTA and have settled with the rear of the arm raised up - interested to hear what others have found with VTA??This cartri...
TVC Promethius versus Bent I have the Bent Audio TVC and find that the transparency that this offers is remarkable. It is feeding an Atmasphere S30 Mkiii OTL which works fine as a combination for me as my speakers are very effiecient (Duo's 108 dB/w). I have tried various a...
Preamps for Atma-Sphere OTL Amplifiers I have an S-30MkIII which is partnered with a Bent Audio remote control TVC. The combination is stunning with clarity, dynamics and imaging the best I have experienced. However, the Atma's need a lot of voltage (4v I think) to achieve their full r...
Turntable upgraded power supply vs. PS Power Plant I am interested in the Premier but didn't know there is a problem with it powering a turntable. There is a review in positive-feedback that describes the improvement when the Premier was feeding a VPI Scout turntable. I couldn't find any reference...
avantgarde duo spikes or plastic feet ? Thanks guys, having tried the spikes and the 3 rails mountings I prefer the latter. I will take Inman and Hornguys advice and invest in the GPA Apex footers.
TVC + Altmann amp? Hi Macrojack - I got the Altmann BYOB amp and have been using for a week now (not as much as I'd like as I'm recovering from an operation). Anyway, I connected the amp direct to my Tom Evans Groove Plus and fired her up. Initially I found the soun...
xover settings for Avantgarde owners - survey. Snap! I have Duo Omega's with SUB225 - the frequency is set at 140Hz (pos 6 or 12 o'clock). If the freq is raised then the sound becomes too 'rich' for my taste. I am using Avantgarde Model 5 and Altmann BYOB amps.
TVC + Altmann amp? I will take delivery of the Altmann amp next week. I'll try it with the pre-amp output from my Avantgarde Model 5 amp and let you know how I get on. I'll then decide whether to go the TVC route. Thanks for your replies.
TVC + Altmann amp? Thanks Macrojack for your advice. I have concerns about using 2 passive devices and I have just received an email from Charles Altmann where he advises that the pot on his unit can be ignored because it would be fully open. I see what he means but... |
