Miles Davis Newbe Question
Kind of Blue is viewed by many as quintessential Miles, but the purists will often disagree. It has excellent sound too, an audiophile must-have.
which is your favorite inexpensive stereo system?
My first system was sub-1k, and I used Kef Q1 monitors. I don't know if the quality went down in the meantime, because I now see they cost even less! Worth looking into. Second the NAD integrated, and even their CDP or a Marantz CDP, would round t...
aragon 4004 matched w/quad 99 pre amp-impedence??
Hi. I don't have a helpful answer, but I do want to hear what others have to say, as I am very interested in this. I actually have the 99-909 Quad combo, as you say 330 into 20k. I don't have a good grip on how this works and what it means for the...
Which component has the most importance?
It's the fleshy thing placed in front of the speakers, covered in fabric (that part is optional, but strongly encouraged), placed on a chair. Specifically the complex electro-chemical arrangement encased in a solid round-like enclosure, with openi...
is audiogon good for the audio industry or bad?
Sorry if it's already been said, did not read all the replies. I think it's definitely not bad. It's a community that perpetuates people's interests in audio equipment and also attracts others to the hobby. I remember a study at the height of the ...
Best power conditioning under 400 bucks
Second the Duet, great bang for the buck in my system. Completely lacks frills, but does not restrict your current and does a very nice job.
Quad 909 heat and hum
I think I figured it out. Does not fully compute in my relatively non-technical head, but here is what transpired: On the assumption that it might be a ground loop harmonic, and given that on occasion I did also hear a 60 Hz hum, I started playing...
Dream System
If I had that much money to spare and put into music, I would be able to go to live concerts fairly often over the next 10-20 years, so I would not buy a stereo at all...
Get new FM receiver or better antenna?
I have a powered indoor Terk antenna, found at radioshack for about 65 bucks or so a while ago. Picks up good signal into my budget NAD tuner, in the basement of a town house in the DC area. The antenna is likely to be a bigger improvement than th...
Quad 909 heat and hum
Here's an interesting bit I just found. First, it does not sound like 60 Hz, it's a tad higher, and in fact coming from the tweeter. Second, it now seems to disappear when I turn on the pre-amp. What can this mean? How can having the pre-amp conne...
Quad 909 heat and hum
Thanks Digsmithd. Mine doesn't seem to change with time of day. It's one of the reasons I am concern about this being more than AC or DC or RF interference - I would expect those to fluctuate some.I found an interesting thread on Audioasylum, some...
how big a speaker can you put in an 11 x 11 room?
Great point Dwhitt - Arros are great, especially with Jazz on vinyl, the OP's stated affliction of choice. Would also throw in a suggestion for one of the Kef monitors - I think the XQ series unless you plan to spend way more for the much better R...
Quad 909 heat and hum
No one? No Quad owners out there?
how big a speaker can you put in an 11 x 11 room?
I agree the main issue is how far you can get from the walls. I have a small room myself, and one set of rear-ported speakers (Soliloquy 5.3i) clearly overwhelmed it. A much larger rear-ported speaker does a lot better! (Usher CP 6311). So I guess...
Need help re Quad 909 Binding Posts
Ozzy: I must be missing something. The problem is for the 909 the fact that it does not take spades, not the reverse. What is needed is the revers conversion.
