Which wood Grado
+1 yogiboy! The Sonatas are a good choice! My experience with Grados goes back to 1976 (FTE +). Always a top contender for cost/performance!
I need your help. I have an ARC Ref 3, ARC 110, Vandersteen 5As, but no turntable.
-1 bpolletti! Just because the venerable 103 was designed back in 1962 doesn't make it a mediocre piece of cr*p! And the venerated Ortofon SPU's are even older! No, the stock 103 sounds fine and will do the job (play records). Upgrades are availab...

+1 fsonicsmith! You sound like a sane person!

HEA enthusiasts have been fooled for far too long by all the overpriced mult-kilo buck gear meant to deplete your credit card!

Project Phono Box not good enough? Try the Bellari tube phono stage (lacking only an extra 0 in its price!).

Snob appeal starts with 4 figure price tags. Truth!

yogiboy & jperry: So my secondhand CJ Model 3 tube preamp is a piece of junk and I should trash it? Same for my ARC SP6? And my Trevor Lees? Just a few of my preamps! Used and not abused is the way to go! Best bang for the buck! Now where is m...
High order crossovers
No problem with the dynamic performance and coherence of my JSE Infinite Slope speakers!
High order crossovers
JSE (John Sollecitto Engineering) speakers from the mid -late 80's had the best implementation of high-order x-overs!  I have a pair in my collection. Later adopted by Joseph Audio (Pulsars).
High level speaker amp out to RCA
Use a pair of rca y-connectors and a long rca interconnect from your preamp. Avoid the amp-to-sub method. NG! That is what I do!
VPI Prime or Scout or ???
As an alternative to the VPI East End Hi Fi of Coram, NY has the Merrill GEM PolyTable with SA-750 arm available for $1795 + $60 shipping. This TT had an excellent review in TAS. And the arm is better than the VPI arm! This would be my choice! eas...
VPI Prime or Scout or ???
Go for the Prime Scout. Add a Grado Sonata cartridge and you will have excellent enjoyable sound (longtime Grado user)! And you can do set up yourself. Plenty of videos on UTube about it (Analog Planet ... ). Buy a DiscWasher brush and D4 cleaning...

And the Hana SL mc for $700 is an excellent choice (rather than spending thousands on a Lyra, Van denHul, Myajima ... ). Truth!

Get a new Technics 1200 and a Hana SL mc cartridge. Phono stage can be a Project (very good value for the money). In fact the phono cartridge will have a bigger effect on SQ than any phono stage. Most of which all sound very good indeed! Only a sn...
Improving sound of Marantz SA-8260 SACD PLAYER
The Marantz will function fine as a transport. Try the Fulla for $99 and if you don't like it you could easily sell it!
