Michael Fremer's system
I'm guessing there is more base absorption happening with all the racks of records, etc than we think so the room is probably bigger than it seems in the video. Any idea what the ceiling height is in that room of his?
Michael Fremer's system
Great videos I’m glad the Sterophile crew is creating these. Jason Victor made a great comment at the end of his about the amount of joy he gets out of his system and he hopes others are also able to find this. Great comment. Just one recommendati...
HELP ADVICE FEEDBACK PS Audio BHK 300 - Hegel H30 - Pass Labs X250.8 or Pass X350.5 amp
Just thinking out loud... If you have extra funds for another upgrade maybe instead of an amp find a way to get a listen of the Luxman 900 PRE in your system. I have a feeling if you hear it in your system you will find a way to trade up for it.  ...
Room acoustics
@toddverrone much better, now you can see more of what's going on. Here are a few targets for you to hit with your tuning from the excellent Acoustic Frounteers guide.Resonances from 35Hz300Hz should not extend beyond 350ms before decaying into t...
ROGERS PA-1A Phono
good info @lewm  Just a FYI, I did an in home demo of this unit. It was "ok". I mean it was good but for 7k should have been more. Great wide soundstage and produced pinpoint imaging but it was a little flat if you ask me. Felt like the soundtage ...
Phono stages employing feedback & record scratch "tic"
Good info, thank you guys.
ROGERS PA-1A Phono
Rogers has one published spec that jumps out at me for a phono. Signal to Noise Ratio: 90 dB at 20 mV inputIs that possible for a tube phono?

@toddverrone are you able to set some limits in your waterfall plots? Maybe just the first chart to begin with. Set frequency 10-500HZ, 30-90 dbs, and time to 500ms. Then we can read the data better.
On Step Ups and the Importance of Managing Gain
Great thread @folkfreak these are very important measurements when pairing equipment.
On Step Ups and the Importance of Managing Gain
Great thread guys and thank you so much for the info. Let me lob one more question into the mix to keep the conversation going. Looks like we also need to watch out for too much gain (overload margin). Is it true that during loud passages the cart...
On Step Ups and the Importance of Managing Gain
i guess this would be phono only as the line stage only comes into the equation when volumne is at 100%?
On Step Ups and the Importance of Managing Gain
Interesting calculator. A few questions, when they give you ideal gain does that mean total as in phono + line stage? Or is that only phono? For example for 0.5mV output cart they say 56db is the optimal gain.
On Step Ups and the Importance of Managing Gain
I thought I saw an excel based calculator out here somewhere that would answer a lot of these questions for a given cart. Punch in output of cart, SUT, Phono, Pre, ect and it would tell you what you needed to stay in "ideal" ranges.Anyone have the...
On Step Ups and the Importance of Managing Gain
Question for the group. I think we all agree that it's important to choose wisely when matching a SUT to a specific cart (1:10, 1:20, 1:5, all that good stuff). How do the phono stage manufactures handle this with such a one size fits all approach...
Room acoustics
Great thread! Another ++ for Room EQ Wizard, great software. I don't focus so much initially on the frequency response charts. I begin with the waterfall or spectrogram looking for base that is hanging in the room too long. Even a few 6" base trap...
