Phono preamp, all suggestions welcome Also on your list should be the musical surroundings units, the phenomena and novaIII. These are not tube but extremely clean, quiet, and true to the source. I have a project I use with my 2nd system and it's ok but if I still had my nova iii I'd ...
Preamp Shopping - Parasound, ML, McIntosh I've gone through a number of preamps over the past few years. I understand that you want DSD and that's great but leave that to a separate DAC and focus on your preamp and the heart of the system. All inputs run into it and it can have a tremendo...
Sound Stage and Imaging A nice pair of Vandersteen model 2 or 3 can be had used in that range. They are fiddely to set up meaning they really need space from the front wall, to be placed far apart with little to no toe in. They are capable of achieving a huge soundstage ...
I am looking to upgrade - looking for advice There are a lot of ways to go here and budget and component matching are going to be extremely important. I agree with @jasonbourne71 , your speakers may be your limiting step right now. B&W have a strong house sound and that sound, to me,...
Does Qobuz work Ive run Qoboz on by blue sound node 2i for a couple years with no issues.
Still looking for a new Moving Coil Cartridge Lively discussion on this one! The Hana cartridges are great. I had an ML and really enjoyed it. I’ve since upgraded a couple times but the shibata stylus in the SL will be a good match for your listening habits and is somewhat forgiving regarding...
New Speaker advice I'm a vandersteen guy but I will admit that older models can definitely sound rolled off in the highs. All the speakers you're looking at are great but I'd add a couple pairs of newer vandersteen in there too. For your budget, you can get a pair o...
Warm vs Revealing—the struggle for balance I strongly agree with finding speakers that you really love. As has been previously stated, they will have the single greatest impact on the sound you hear. Use the other components to "color" things a bit. The other thing I'd say is when it comes...
Integrated Amplifier for Sonus Faber Guarneri Evolution My feeling is when it comes to these things, you'll never know a good match until you try it. Some great amps have been mentioned here but I'd add one to the list: https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lisb62ag-modwright-kwh-225i-stereo-tube-hybrid-in...
Upgrading preamp. Best for under $1K I'd also recommend a Rogue RP-1 used. I had one and it took 3 upgrades to get something that sounded better. If you keep your eye out you should be able to snag one for 1k or so on the used market.
Old CD player back from the dead—prompting many questions! So the California audio labs stuff was always interesting to me. They were really modded name brand players and where a lot of the mods were was in the DAC if memory serves me. Mike Moffat, now of Schiit, was the brains behind cal audio labs. If I...
Help me choose an Audio Research preamp/line stage (Please?) I have quattros and while the ARC stuff is definitely good it all suffers from use of global negative feedback. Also amps and preamps eeds to match well. I tried an ARC ref 3 in my system when I had Rogue m180s and it sounded awful; tinny and thin...
Simple question, probably stupid I have always found that tubes do get better with "burn in time". As others have said and as Brent Jesse who is my go to for NOS tubes says you have 2 options: leave the amps on for the desired period of time, no signal needed or just burn them in...
List some of your favorite live Jazz recordings Lots of good stuff here. My favorite would be: Wynton Kelly trio featuring wes Montgomery, live at the half note This album just swings so damn hard. I dare you to not tap your foot along.
What speaker could safely be ordered without hearing it first? The speakers you choose will have the single greatest impact on what your system sounds like. Last time I brought speakers for my main system, I drove 3.5 hours to listen first. Yes, your room will make a difference, yes, your other components wil... |
